No other extension? you'll need an adblock extension either ABP or uBo.STR8_AN94BALLER wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 4:48 am Have been showing on search lately.

Everytime someone reports something here, all the reply has been "blocked on my machine" which isn't very helpful

Hi, I can reproduce it by uBO v1.24.2 on Firefox 71.0 (Win10 x64) w/ default filter lists.
https://imgur.com/a/OkajdB5
The required filter to hide it is:
and this is a capture of the dev tool just in case:

@STR8_AN94BALLER
In this case, request logs won't help. This type of text ads can not be blocked, can only be hidden (or removed by HTML filter). The logger doesn't log these elements unless you already have corresponding filter. And, please consider how you can help them to reproduce, rather than complain. Most of us are volunteer.

Of note, EasyList has:
In my regional Google search, mobile version requires a different filter, but I can't reproduce ads in English search. So please post a SS w/ a search term used next time you see ads on mobile, w/ relevant info such as subscription filters.

I forgot to add that on mobile I'm using additional MVPS host filter and Fanboy annoyance list.
Stock ubo settings so far. The only other addon is smart https.

Does this work?

I could finally reproduce, but w/ a slightly diff search term.

if not okay, and maybe better, in uBO syntax:
For PC, for some reason I can't reproduce the ads by "me cleaner" or similar terms now, so can't confirm.

No, that doesn't work if you meant mobile version. A working filter on my end is, if using random-looking class name is okay:fanboy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 9:19 am Does this work?

Just a reminder to all that in uBO generic cosmetic filters are not enabled by default on mobile, this setting must be enabled by the user.

Uncheck "Ignore generic cosmetic filters" in Filter lists tab of uBO option, it is not checked by default on PC version. (Given you're using uBO, actually this is not necessary, I wrote generic rules only because ABP does not support wildcard.) Can you try these steps and report your experience back here?
1. Copy and paste
Code: Select all
###taw
then see if ads disappear after you reload the Google search page.
2. Delete the above rule and instead apply
Code: Select all
###center_col > #taw > #tvcap > [jscontroller]
3. Repeat step1 for mobile, except for this time not
Code: Select all
###taw
Code: Select all
google.*###main > div:has(a[href^="/settings/ads"])
The mobile rule is independent of language, I mean, works also for ads in regional search.

Could be generic? ^
It's now hard for me to reproduce as most search ads are already hidden by uBlock filters. I hope intense's filter works - IF not;
@STR8_AN94BALLER can you, when the ads appear, right click on the ads and choose "Inspect element" to open dev tools and take a SS? The same can't be done on mobile tho.

When performing a Google image search, I discovered unblocked "Sponsored" shopping ad box, and accidentally clicked, to my disappointment.
This occurs on Firefox 72.0.2 (64-bit) with uBlock Origin 1.24.2. It also occurs on Chrome 79.0.3945.130 (slightly out of date) with uBlock Origin 1.24.4. Windows 10 x64.
URL to reproduce at https://www.google.com/search?q=DODOLAN ... 20&bih=969 . The ads only show up if you are logged into a Google account.
Screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/nYacfKq.png
I used SingleFile to save the page, and uploaded it to https://gitlab.com/snippets/1937325/raw .
Alternative URL: https://www.google.com/search?q=3d prin ... 9&biw=1920 I'm sure there's a lot more URLs with sponsored shopping results.
Rules to block this panel:
- It takes half a second for the ads to disappear on every page load; is that a known issue with
- I don't know if it has false positives.
- Instantly blocks the element upon page load.
- The gibberish class names do not change on refresh, or between different search queries (see alternative URL). Hopefully Google doesn't change the class names and break this rule. I'm not familiar with how gibberish class names are generated.

Sponsored search can sometimes bypass ABP and UBO on Chrome (this browser hate other adblocker than native Google adblock, same problem on opera).
I use this filter to block this "hidden" sponsored box

Ads "commercial" above google pictures search results (only if ABP enabled, not with UBO enabled). https://ibb.co/9GhbNGg
Tested with Firefox and Chrome, same results. ABP with Easylist and FR.

Google websites appear to be commonly showing "Switch to Chrome" ads.
This looks like the same blob of code as what I analyzed in Gmail here: viewtopic.php?f=62&t=44783&p=155169#p155169
this element appears to be common among these pages:

Google image have slipped through cracks as of recent and I will list of some of them.
1 Where google reviews are located there can be ads for prices of games from near by game stores. I had to element block it twice to get rid of them
2 If google search loads a different way where the contents that such, images, shopping, maps, etc are moved to the left. This can happen when you type in game. And on said page is the price ads from stores near by.
3 Google Shopping: https://imgur.com/a/YrnYGzM
4 Google images ad screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/nM4Uag6
Shopping ads are easy to trigger, but images is not easy to trigger. I typed "nintendo switch pro controller "dragon quest" for it to appear. You try disabling cookies to see if that appears or not. So please easylists, update the filters to make these ads get blocked and not slip through the amount of complaints about people running into ads on youtube through ublock origin's sub reddit and google reviews is high!
So what Im saying is update the filters to block the ads. Because my filter list for ublock origin is filling up.
