Element ads on w3school and eweek (pvt)

Post by Sheepy »

Ok, I know there're not much obvious ads left at these two site, but the introduction of element filtering is surely raising my bar for ad filters.

http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
Text ads at right column, can be eliminated with
w3schools.com##td[width="145"][valign="top"][align="center"] table + table

http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1961510,00.asp
Many many sponsors, partners, and u know what after article body.
eweek.com##td[width="440"] table ~ table

To the best of my knowledge and inspection no harm is done to innocent contents. Well, except the rss section of eweek, but you can get the feed from address bar anyway.

I love CSS3. I can't wait to find somewhere I can use the not selector.
To bad they can be broken easily... I still think we'll eventually needs something more like XPath. CSS is not designed for specifing ads.

P.S. If anyone is still reading html source manually, try FireBug. It shows DOM tree with full source that can be navigated with mouse. :D

Problem is that I can't get child selectors to work :( Descendant selectors work fine though.

P.S. Thanks for the tip about FireBug. Looks pretty cool, I'm installing it right now.
