Blocking Web Clips in Gmail [fixed]

The web clips are the news headlines that Gmail shows above your Inbox. They can be easily disabled in the settings (switch to the Web Clips tab and uncheck "Show my web clips above the Inbox"). You can also change to RSS feeds that you want to follow. So they aren't ads but rather a service. Should they really be hidden?
