fandom.com

Post by Teniel_X1 »

A few days back, I've began to have problems loading some (not all) *.fandom.com pages. While it would load the first page normally, going onto a second or third page on the site will cause it to not load properly.

Reloading the site with the logger open I saw that it stopped at 24.wyciwyg-scheme. On other occassions, It stops at 1.wyciwyg-scheme and so on.

I have confirmed this on multiple machines and multiple OSes. The problem exists on Firefox browsers with those subscribed to Easylist. Disabling Easylist allows the site to work properly. Though doing so allows some ads to pop up.

However, after some trial and error I've been able to narrow down the problem to somewhere in the easylist_general_hide.txt section. Though nothing more specific than that.

I have confirmed this on multiple machines and multiple OSes. Here's the filters/browsers and OSes I used in my testing:

Ad Blocker Name: UBlock Origin 11.18.16

Any Lists or Custom Filters:
  • EasyList
    uBlock filters
    uBlock filters – Badware risks
    uBlock filters – Privacy
    uBlock filters – Resource abuse
    uBlock filters – Unbreak
    EasyPrivacy
    Malware Domain List
    Malware domains
    Fanboy's Cookie List
Peter Lowe’s Ad and tracking server list
List Version: EasyList Version: 201902102354

Browser Name: Firefox
Browser Version: Tested on both 59.0.3 and 66.0.3

OS Name: Microsoft Windows
OS Version: 7 Home (64-bit) and 10 Home (64-bit)

Use FF 66.0.3
1. do backup all settings in uBo
2. install the last dev build of uBo for firefox from https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases
named uBlock0_1.18.17b3.firefox.signed.xpi
(check in addons page to have only 1 uBo enabled addon - the dev one)
3. restore the saved settings
4. test again your fandom pages

Provide the links to the test pages.

This test was done using the last Dev Build of uBo for Firefox on Win 7 (64-bit) in the FF 66.0.3 Portable Browser.

Restored settings from the previous build and subscribed to the Easylist Filters.

I went onto this website to test it:

Code: Select all

https://overlordmaruyama.fandom.com/wiki/CZ2128_Delta
I then clicked on the 'Relationships' Button located at the top of the page, then after that once the next page has fully loaded clicked the 'Abilities and Powers' button.

I then clicked on whatever that popped up in the "Recent Wiki Activity" section.

I have not spotted the wyciwyg-scheme error once while loading each page.

I have not spotted the wyciwyg-scheme error
So, the dev build is working correctly. Just use it waiting to become stable.

I have now tested the uBO build on FF 59.0.3 and following the same testing steps as in 66.0.3, I have also not encounter any wyciwyg-scheme issues.

I spoke too soon. It seemed to be only a temporary fix, the problem has returned.

UBlock 1.18.17b3
Firefox 59.0.3
Windows 7 Home (64-Bit)
Same filters as before.

I went from:
to
+https://overlordmaruyama.fandom.com/wiki/Sebas_Tian/Relationships
to
+https://overlordmaruyama.fandom.com/wiki/Sebas_Tian/Abilities_and_Powers

And I got 11.wyciwyg-scheme showing up in the logger on the last one.

- go into dashboard, whitelist tab and add (2 rows):

Code: Select all

wyciwyg-scheme
behind-the-scene
test again

Added those two into whitelist tab, which now looks like this:

Code: Select all

about-scheme
behind-the-scene
chrome-extension-scheme
chrome-scheme
moz-extension-scheme
opera-scheme
vivaldi-scheme
wyciwyg-scheme
Went to the same three sites as before, crashes on the third site with the wyciwyg-scheme error as before

Does it still work in FF 66 ?
However, it's about a FF bug, corrected in FF 67

I don't seem to have any issues with FF 66 ATM, I'll notify you if there is any changes to the situation though.

Edit:
For the moment with FF 59.0.3, I'm using this version of Easylist which has the easylist_general_hide.txt section removed
http://m.uploadedit.com/bbtc/1555695785648.txt

This is the only version that I can use atm which doesn't give me issues loading fandom.com pages.

Alright I've been experimenting in FF 59 to see if I can trigger the problem by slowly introducing each part of the easylist_general_hide.txt section as their own custom list.

And it triggered specifically when I added these lines of code.
http://m.uploadedit.com/bbtc/155569699084.txt

So somethere in there is the problem causer.

Yes, normal cosmetic filters, but the real cause is the FF bug (which provides wrong requests to uBo engine)

I know its been a while since I posted in here, but I've figure out some filters which helped alleviate (but not completely get rid of) the problem.

Code: Select all

||wikia.nocookie.net/__load/*jquery.checkbox
||wikia.nocookie.net/__load/*jquery.client
||wikia.nocookie.net/__load/*mediawiki.api
With these I can now load more than 3 pages before I get the wyciwyg-scheme error.

Oh the wyciwyg-scheme error still appears at times, even on the latest FF version, but instead of being a common sight, it now become rarer.

Edit:

Added a couple extra filters after doing some further investgation

Code: Select all

||wikia.nocookie.net/__cb1557426433110
@@||wikia.nocookie.net/*Lightbox.js
The second one is so that the image boxes on wikia sites open properly, because the first one breaks that particular feature.

Since there's already a thread here, hope you don't mind if I add a little new problem I encountered instead of opening a duplicate thread of the same site.

Dunno if it's caused by a new easylist filter update but this just happened to me a few hours ago:

https://i.imgur.com/zncCfU6.png

If I keep scrolling down, it goes very far down and there's nothing but giant icons and broken text links and jumbles... what happened and how do I fix this. I'm on chrome if that helps.

So why the whitelist for Lightbox.js? and reproducible steps.

For some days now I have been having problems with fandom content, mainly with the site that I am manage

Code: Select all

https://warframe.fandom.com/es/
When I try to open an article in new tabs or pages, more specifically articles that I have recently edited or are of my authorship, Adblock closes them to me in the act, forcing me to deactivate EasyList to be able to work normally.
I have verified that this block happens more frequently in international sites, named interwiki, and not so much in the main sites in English. It also occurs in these but to a lesser extent. Maybe it's coincidence, but I leave that fact here, perhaps it's relevant.

If it is happening to me, I assume that the rest of our users is suffering it too, for what I would appreciate you could solve this problem as soon as possible.
Regards and thank you very much in advance.
