It may not be perfect ... but it's not bad

An idea to change the ad model
An idea to change the ad model
"Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it"
That's the best solution I saw so far... although it's not going to happen ever. But it's also a good idea as this won't require changes in the adblocking work because these type of ads are probably not blocked by default. So we wouldn't have to work out a list of acceptable ads (which will be needed if the number of adblocking users is high enough to affect the ad business).

I do like this idea much better than the current ad model. I do think that over time though, it would become difficult to trust people's product recommendations. When being offered money, many people will not hesitate to recommend a product they do not like. When I hear an announcer on the radio recommending a product, I change the channel because I find it fake and annoying. Seeing these all over the web, I'd want to adblock them too.
Although this would never work out, what i'd like to see is a company paying someone to post a review/opinion instead of a recommendation. The payment should be the same, whether the review is positive or negative. At this point though, it would be hard to pay a webmaster based on actual purchases completed through their site. They'd have to be paid on adviews alone. Obviously companies would not like this very much . From a consumer's point of view though, I'd most certainly not block this.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, Rick. You really give thought to this, and I'm fooling around.
Fooling around IS permitted here, Ares. We can't be serious ALL the time.
... THAT would be boring.
