We'll see. Bild.de and Forbes.com have done the same and people who care enough about being protected from ads and still being able to visit those sites can do just that. They have to fix the system so that stuff like this doesn't happen or I won't ever allow ads. But I guess it's not about people like me but about the people who actually give in and let ads, tracking and malware through.

Fixed.
Why was my original post edited to break the URL though?

Ah, I have referrers blocked, so no worries. But I guess others clicking it would be an issue. Let me know if you want me to post links like that for other anti-adblock sites in the future.fanboy wrote:referrer tracking.

If you can, yeah. Not everyone blocks referrers by default. opening text links (right click in firefox) doesnt issue referrers since I reported it
add
Code: Select all
@@||subscribe.wired.com^
no, it does not work, add this 1:
Code: Select all
@@||$xmlhttprequest,script,domain=wired.com

SPONSORED STORIES POWERED BY OUTBRAIN is visible, by the way.
Adding that filter^ also causes the ads blocked counter on chrome to go crazy as you scroll through an article.

(Never mind about the ABP counter. Was being caused by something else)

Works. However, adding
@@||$xmlhttprequest,script,domain=wired.com
causes a big blank space on the right column above 'latest news'

if the counter issue was caused by some ghostery / badge things you can remove

It was caused by whitelisting adobe in ghostery in order to avoid the adblock detection, but wired seems to have changed their detection, so whitelisting those isn't needed anymore, so the problem is moot. Google Adsense has to be whitelisted now in Ghostery to avoid the adblock detection.intense wrote:if the counter issue was caused by some ghostery / badge things you can remove

(and all the others too, but that's the one that stops the anti-adblock, which should have higher priority)

Wired loads a bunch of content in a single call, one of them is their ad block detection script.
Although it does remove a few other elements, I found the following added to my custom filter will stop the popup:
*wired.com*blockadblock*
Code: Select all
src='http://www.wired.com/assets/load?scripts=true&c=1&load%5B%5D=jquery-sonar,wpcom-lazy-load-images,outbrain,blockadblock,tracking,ads,wired&ver=1458861902'
*wired.com*blockadblock*

After a few seconds the article gets replaced with a page asking me to whitelist the site or to pay for an ad-free version.

wired.com has anti adblock message when you scroll down to the middle of the page.
