WIKIPEDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [rej]

Post by bee »

Hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D

I looked now at a page on wikipedia!!!!! :-? I don't like much that website, but sometimes i use it!!!

Well, this time i noticed a banner!!!!!!!! :surprised: :surprised:

If you surf on wikipedia, after a while you'll see it too!!!! If you click on "Random article" a few times, i'm sure the banner i'm talking about will display!!!!!!! :D

Apparently it's only a self-supporting banner!!!! :-? YEAH!! it looks like a self promotional banner!!!
But it's also a tracking banner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :surprised: :surprised:

It has a textual link "Please read: A personal appeal from Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales" in a very big BOX with Jimbo's face, but if you have my BeeFree addon installed and you move the mouse over the text, BeeFREE will notice the tracking link and you'll see it in the popup!!!!! :surprised: it's tracking link belonging to GoogleAnalytics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!! GoogleAnalytics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :!: the most evil and wrost multinational company ever!!!!!!!!!!!! :!: :!:

This is a piece of BeeFree's info about the tracking link!!!!!!!!!

Code: Select all

Trackers: Generic, Generic-GoogleAnalytics
Original: http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Appeal23/en?utm_medium=sitenotice&utm_campaign=landingpage_testing1028&utm_source=2010_testing50
RAW: http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Appeal23/en?utm_medium=sitenotice&utm_campaign=landingpage_testing1028&utm_source=2010_testing50
I think EasyList or EasyPrivacy have to hide/block the banner!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Looking at the blockable items i've also found these things:
If possible they all are all to block!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

It's important to remember Google is a multinational company!! :!: , they aren't "benefactor", neither good Samaritans!!!!!!!!
It's a multinational company, and it has only shareholders to make happy!!!!!! They'll for sure use all their available obtained data for nasty things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-?
So, even if it's WIKIPEDIA, the holy website managed under the benevolent dictatorship of Jimbo Wales, i think it's okay to block it!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
As Wikipedia and Google have everyday a closer relationship!!! :surprised: it's better to do not support Wikipedia either!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-?
Very true Google corrupts everything it touches!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They did it with YouTube, Mozilla (Firefox, the "Safe browsing database", AMO, etc), Wikipedia

bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I noticed this thing too :surprised: :surprised: :-?
Even from the homepage, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page if you move your mouse over the link "Donate" this is what you've:

Code: Select all

Page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Title:
Target: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:VariablePage
Trackers: Generic, Generic-GoogleAnalytics
Original: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:VariablePage&utm_source=donate&utm_medium=sidebar&utm_campaign=spontaneous_donation
RAW: /w/index.php?title=Special:VariablePage&utm_source=donate&utm_medium=sidebar&utm_campaign=spontaneous_donation
The original link is ...utm_campaign=spontaneous_donation... a GoogleAnalytics tracking link

WIKIPEDIA is no more a open website :-? They're now a big brother controlling everything  everywhere you click :surprised: :surprised:

But BeeFREE and AdBlock PLUS can fight against it!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D  Against Google's trackings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D even when they're set up on WIKIPEDIA :D :D  yeah!!!!!! everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D

It is now approaching the time of year when Wikipedia run their donations drive; the banner you saw was evidently a test version. However, as the image is self-promotion it will not be remove by either EasyList or EasyPrivacy.

They're not controlling anything, as the decision to donate via any method is purely voluntary. I presume that the organisation are measuring the efficiency of different banners to decide which ones to ultimately use.

I have already written a blog post about the banners and will publish it when the donations drive actually commences.

To clarify: Has geoiplookup.wikimedia.org also been rejected as a filter suggestion? (I respect your decision, and I am not requesting a filter - just asking.)

Some discussion on its purpose can be found here. Blocking it causes no obvious loss of functionality, though I am not a registered user on any Wikimedia project, nor any JavaScript errors (though that's because pages contain the JavaScript code Geo={"city": "", "country": ""} to ensure the variable is defined).

Added (https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/19a4fbba56af)

Code: Select all

||geoiplookup.wikimedia.org^
I'm afraid that I missed the suggestion because of focus on the banners, and have now added the filter to EasyPrivacy.

Hi!!!!!!!!!! :D :D
Well, i added these filters in my ad blocking rules :D

Code: Select all

.wikipedia.org/wiki/*:Banner
.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=*:Banner
geoiplookup.wikimedia.org^
The last one is the same in easyprivacy :-? but the first two are to add manually!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D  I suggest everyone to add them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D  I tested them for a couple of days looking at pages in various languages i don't understand but the filters worked!!!!!!!!! :D :D
There is no reason to let those things with the word "banner" :surprised: to load!!!!!!!!!! :D :D for no reason but to display you banners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :D YEAH!!!

bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

The geoiplookup item has moved to https://bits.wikimedia.org/geoiplookup (it can also be unencrypted http: if you are browsing the page as such).

As http://geoiplookup.wikimedia.org/ still seems to be live I will not remove the filter yet.
