Facebook.com Sponsored ads posts

Post by Guest99 »

Sponsored ad posts/statuses are appearing in my Facebook feed. Is there anyway to block them?

They seem to match;
www.facebook.com##div[data-xt]
But only after they are loaded. Re-load the page, and the adds reappear...

Code: Select all

facebook.com##:xpath(//a[text()='Sponsored']/parent::span/ancestor::div[contains(concat(' ',normalize-space(@class),' '),' userContentWrapper ')])
this works, but people will have to change 'Sponsored' according to their fb language setting.

Those FB ads are driving me crazy, tried blocking several different ways and keeps coming back.

also tried the filters, nothing.

Code: Select all

<DIV
id="u_jsonp_2_o"
class="_4-u2 mbm _5v3q _4-u8" >
Thats the line that does it for me, but reload and its back too...

Somehow I manage to block the image of the Dollar Shave Club ad, dunno how, but the post always comes back anyway.

These ads are based off of a WAN IP address. They show ads near you when it comes to stores and what not. It says you can hide them using the down arrow on FB but it doesn't actually work on a desktop.

Hello everyone! I'm an absolute noob in computing... My question is about the code you have proposed : where should i go to try the different solutions suggested by you? where do you put the code lines?

Thank you all for your future answers!

EasyList is the primary filter list that removes most adverts from international webpages.
Liste FR is supplement list for easylist which block ads on french webpages.

Hi guys,

Set up an account just to post this. I found a workaround for the new facebook code to selectively target the suggested posts etc.;

##DIV[data-insertion-position]:not([data-timestamp])

Seems to also block video showing up if you click on a suggested video... but I can live with that.

The "hide ad" option from Facebook doesn't even work.

This filter has been added to EasyList

Code: Select all

facebook.com##div[id^="substream_"] ._5jmm[data-dedupekey][data-cursor][data-ftr="1"][data-fte="1"]:not([data-timestamp])
It seems to kill those suggested post ads.

So just update your filters like another user suggested.

Facebook was quick: The fix from viewtopic.php?f=62&t=31995&start=15 doesn't work anymore.
Now suggested posts also have the date-timestamp element.

Suggested post:

Code: Select all

<div data-fte="1" data-ftr="1" class="_5jmm _5pat _3lb4 _59m _x72" id="hyperfeed_story_id_57ae800aa79194811977263" data-testid="fbfeed_story" data-cursor="MTQ3MTA1MzgxMToxNDcxMDUzODExOjI6LTE4NDEzNzIxMDkzNTAxMjI5NDg6MTQ2OTUyOTIyMzow" data-dedupekey="-1841372109350122948" data-timestamp="1471027474" data-referrer="hyperfeed_story_id_57ae800aa79194811977263" aria-labelledby="js_h js_i js_j js_k" data-insertion-position="3">XXX</div>
On this level, I cannot see any difference from good posts; the first reliable sub-element seems to be <a class="uiStreamSponsoredLink"...>, but I don't know if Adblock supports backwards CSS selection (e.g. contains), since pure CSS does not. Any ideas?

hanno

ps: Also, on viewtopic.php?f=62&t=31995&start=15 the Google reCAPTCHA doesn't show up, which is why I had to open a new thread.

I found a way here https://github.com/tiratatp/facebook_adblock
As you see, there is an addon for firefox and chrome and either are good.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... ag/related
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addo ... k_adblock/
no more facebook ads

Thanks blauerseefarher! The module works perfectly for me! :D

But i have another question (it never ends)... I find that in my news feed there is too much publications that i can see just because my friends "like" them... I wondered if it was possible to put an end to this. I don't want to see all the things my friends "like", i just wanna see these publications when my friends share them or post it directly on their wall.

I hope you understand my problem :D it's been a long time i did not speak english!

And i discovered this forum recently. love his community :D

I just tried the Chrome addon mentioned above, no luck.

I don't know whether this can be handled by ABP without some recoding. Here's example code of one of the adverts, the 37 kilobytes (for ONE advert) has been trimmed down to just the DIVs. As you can see, the whole DIV would need to be blocked if it in turn contains a DIV, which contains a DIV, which contains a DIV, which contains a DIV, which contains a DIV, which contains a SPAN containing the words "Suggested post":-
