Banned from forums

Post by gotitbro »

Hello Lanik,
My IP address was recently banned on https://forums.lanik.us/. I can tell you that I have not posted any derogatory or hurtful content anywhere.
I don't know why this ban issued. Please help me in this regard.

Thank you,
gotitbro

Note: Tried sending an email to the one listed on the ban page, it was rejected.

If you made this post then you're not banned. :-)

Either the password attempts triggered a temp ban or you got an IP of a known spammer.

Does generating unusual traffic also trigger a ban?

Depends on your definition of unusual. Malicious will definately trigger a 15 minute temp ban.

If you see it again take a screen shot of it.

Thanks for letting me know, initially I thought the ban was due to my heavily frequenting the site

I'll check to see why that's happening.

Thanks for doing that, my IP address might be getting assigned to spam bots or something similar, as of now I can access the forums through a VPN only...

Interestingly I did not find my IP in any block list, it was listed only on the Spamhaus email block list simply because it didn't use SMTP.

see

https://blog.returnpath.com/get-out-of- ... -spamhaus/

blocklist removal center

https://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/

or contact your ISP to have your IP removed from the blocklist.

I don't think that's causing an issue as that block list only applies for people using the spamhaus email list and that list even for spam, it just rejects emails send from IPs not using SMTP, maybe Lanik can shed more light on why the issue was arising (I am able to access the forum now without VPN).

All the blocking has been off since at least Thursday morning for this site. I use some form of temp IP blocking for those who show up on forum spam lists. This feature is off for time being.

I just thought of one thing I forgot to check which is CloudFlare. Next time you get blocked PM me your IP at the time you got blocked and I'll check their logs. I'm sure I can setup a whitelist or a challenge question for you if I have to. At least it will get you through to this site.
