We're moving!!! (update: We are now moved!!!)

Post by LanikSJ »

As some of you may have heard I'm going to move this domain to a new host ... Surpass Hosting. During the move if you can't reach lanik.us domain use the following URL:

Once the DNS propagates and points to my new host I'll take a backup of this forum and move it to the new host. I will keep this forum up for a few weeks but in suspended mode.

Thanks and stay tuned for updates. :)

EDIT: As of 3 pm PST January 5th we are on a new host. :)

Yes I just noticed myself and I went ahead and closed to old forum on Powweb and transferred all the data from the old forum here. Please report any missing posts (shouldn't be any) or any bugs you find. :)

I can tell the difference already.

BTW the whole DNS transfer took less then 2 hrs. NOW THAT'S SERVICE!!!! :mrgreen:

I can't seem to get the email settings right, this is what I'm getting:

Code: Select all

Could not connect to smtp host : 0 : Failed to parse address "mail.lanik.us"

<b>[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice</b>: in file <b>/includes/functions_messenger.php</b> on line <b>835</b>: <b>fsockopen() [<a href='function.fsockopen'>function.fsockopen</a>]: unable to connect to mail.lanik.us:0 (Failed to parse address "mail.lanik.us")</b><br />
So currently the site sends no email notifications. :(

Wow .. now that's what I call fast :shock: Works nice. :D

Is there a mail server created here for 'lanik.us'?

Do you think Rich would know what is wrong or is it something our new host would have to setup? I'm not really THAT good at these things.

I emailed Surpass support and they said this:

Code: Select all

[object Object]
We do not allow that you send mail using direct connections to port 25, instead we insist that you use the php mail() function. phpBB should have a way to switch over to using the php mail() function; if it eludes you, you should be able to ask at http://www.phpbb.com/ . I have verified that the php mail() function is working on the server so this should take care of your problems.
So I did as they asked now to see if it works or not. I can't tell for sure but I did send myself an email and I haven't gotten it yet.

? ... But you ARE logged in now, fanboy. This IS the new forum server:

The old domain link:
http://forums.lanik.us
.... is now attached to the new forum server. This is the migrated forum here. You are still using the link (http://lanik.powweb.com/)to the old forum. Lanik has locked that down.

@lanik:
I DID get notified for my new posts. :)

@fanboy
DNS propagation only took about 2 hrs after I changed the name servers with my domain host. We are on a new host with a whole new setup and I take it no problems with slow database? ;) I've also added a message for anyone who goes there. The reason that board is closed is because we don't want anyone using that forum right now, for one I'm going to take it down within a week as long as we verify everything is working on this end.

@rick
No email function hasn't worked even when I sent myself email to a different account other then on lanik.us domain. I've posted something to phpbb community we'll see what we come up with.

Its a slightly different email setup then I'm used to but I'm getting the hang of it. I like their service a lot I'm going to renew it once its up at the end of this year. Now what to do with the other account, I'll find something. :D

The best thing I like is the forum is flying doesn't matter what I'm doing. :mrgreen:

I know ... it's running flawlessly here now :) .

It's what Powweb SHOULD have been. If they are going to ignore their SQL problems like they have, they won't be hosting much soon :(

I'm actually going to leave a pretty nasty review for them in a couple of places. And the sites that I have found which review hosting providers rate Surpass about double compared to Powweb. Highest Powweb ever got was a 4 out of 10 as opposed to Surpass 7 and above.

Now that's more like it. Runs great so far :-)

A couple of tiny observations:
  • The rows are not clickable anymore.
  • Somehow, outdated avatar images got migrated (no problem really, just to let you know).
  • Rick sent me a private message just before the switch - which is gone now. I do remember what he wrote though. ;)

Ok, I don't mean this to be a me too type post..but I feel you should get good feedback for a good move. The site is flat out flying here (for me) now. Thanks a bunch. It was painful at times to read what was going on here before.

@ Lanik:
There is nothing wrong with the PM, Lanik. I don't think Chewey realized that I sent him the PM on the ABP Forum ... and NOT here.

1. I haven't installed any mods yet I will be doing that today.
2. If you changed the avatar after the 3rd when I copied everything it wouldn't show.

Um... yeah. :oops: I feel stupid now...
lanik wrote:If you changed the avatar after the 3rd when I copied everything it wouldn't show.
I changed it the 1st in the early afternoon (your time). But I'm not complaining, the reset actually saved
me the clicks to revert to "non-holiday mode". :)

There is something weird with your avatar, Chewey. It looks "stretched" .... like the height & width aren't defined correctly. It probably has the 'holiday' image settings with the old avatar (which may have been slightly different?). You might want to re-upload it.

We can't have an ugly Hobbes now can we? :)

I sent the PM to you on the ABP forum because I wasn't sure how the transition would go here. Don't feel stupid .... I normally would have sent it from here.
