pushpad.xyz

Post by pushpad »

One of our customers told us that your plugin filter list is blocking https://pushpad.xyz/ and its Javascript SDK
(https://pushpad.xyz/pushpad.js).

However that doesn't make sense, because Pushpad is based in EU, has strict privacy rules, never resell data to advertisers and never display or send advertising.

Basically Pushpad is a service for web push notifications that respect privacy and that is not related to advertising in any way. It is only used by the website owner to send push notifications to their own website users.

Please whitelist our website or contact us if you need further details.

Reported _here_ to be added to the annoyance list.

How do you do to control the push notifications sent by your customers?

This means that you are collecting users data?
Currently the only data are some tags that can be added by the developer to subscribe the user to the correct group of recipients or to send a message to that specific user later. Basically it is only for technical purposes. We don't collect other data and we don't merge data from other sources. You can't do better than this.

Also, our Javascript SDK doesn't use cookies or similar tracking methods.
How do you do to control the push notifications sent by your customers?
Our customers can send notifications only to their own users (not to all Pushpad users!): i.e. they can send notifications only to the subscriptions that they have collected on their website.

We can't control push notifications that they send, because we are only a service for developers... it would be against privacy to control every single notification and it wouldn't make sense. Basically we are not a platform like Facebook that collects data: we are like AWS, a service for developers (and data belongs exclusively to that developer that can decide what to do with his data and must comply to privacy laws).

Please let us know if you have removed Pushpad from **all your lists**.

Otherwise contact us if you have other privacy concerns.

read above, I removed that filter from ublock filters.
I didn't find such filter in other lists.

Update your filters and test yourself.

"Fanboy's Annoyance List blocks Social Media content, in-page pop-ups and other annoyances"(https://easylist.to/) and I believe that this service perfectly falls into the policy, so I don't think will be removed.

Code: Select all

his service perfectly falls into the policy
Can I ask you why it falls into this category?

Notifications are received only by people who ask to receive them and in case they can change browser preferences at any time.
https://www.w3.org/TR/push-api/#security-and-privacy-considerations

If you refer to the browser prompt that ask if they want to receive notifications, it can be triggered at most once. You cannot display it again (never!) if the user says "No".

And moreover Pushpad is also used for *transactional notifications* that deliver useful contents: reminders of events and appointments, messages from users, etc.
