From https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Thread:P ... _appearing: we noticed that EasyList is blocking MediaWiki images of particular sizes.
There are several instances of "_WIDTHxHEIGHT." in EasyList. Is there a way to allow these on MediaWiki sites?
Mediawiki images of certain sizes
Could these mediawiki dimensions be used for advertising purposes on some wikis?

Users can upload images in any size; images in these sizes can be adverts just like images in any other size can be as well. They can also be - like in our case - no adverts. These are false-positives.
So any dimension size could be blocked regardless what we whitelist? If there are specific sites that are being blocked by mistake submit them away,..

It does not really make sense to to differentiate images on a MediaWiki site by size. People can upload images in any size and usually they won't bother checking, all possible programs if they might be hidden there. This behaviour is not very user-friendly. It is also possible to adjust the display size of an image in MediaWiki. So if AdblockPlus blocked an actual advert because of it's size, one can make it be rendered a few pixels bigger or smaller so that it would show up anyway.

It is not the sites, which should be whitelisted, but the sites in combination with the sizes. The problem can happen with any website, which is running MediaWiki. MediaWiki produces the file names this way. A user just has to upload an image, which has these sizes. These sizes can appear on any MediaWiki page. It is not possible to say, *which* websites run MediaWiki so that you could whitelist them all.

Using common ad dimension size on wiki pages, I would expect false positives to occur.. There is 2 ways it could be fixed, adjust the image or display size to be slightly different from any regular ad dimension sizes or submit a false positive so we can whitelist the site and/or page.hexxer wrote: It does not really make sense to to differentiate images on a MediaWiki site by size. In some circumstances if we get enough reports that a certain image dimension creates too many false positives, we'll just remove the problematic filter.
Maybe suggest not to run mediawiki and adblock plus? Again my point stands still, if a certain webpage is blocking a site by mistake then submit a false positive report. We can't just whitelist all mediawiki sites, and even if we could.. I could see that being taken advantage of by advertisers or web admins.hexxer wrote: It is not the sites, which should be whitelisted, but the sites in combination with the sizes. I'm not treating mediawiki sites any differently than other sites who have issues with Adblock plus.
