adultfriendfinder [fixed]

Post by ITsupport4pornfans »

apparently, the adultfriendfinder filter blocks thumbnails on

Code: Select all

http://www.adultfriendfinder.com
the thumbnails at issue are neither ads nor third-party trackers, they are pictures of boobs & butts; so, perhaps the current filter is a bit too aggressive

reason I care is that adultfriendfinder is listed as one of the 100 most popular sites on the internet and some people here keep trying to mess with adblock plus to view that site.

Adultfriendfinder is one of the most annoying cases of spam advertising I have ever seen :x

This appears on sites that it shouldn't all over the web. If it is in the top 100, it is only because of that annoying spamming tactic of buying up all available ad space everywhere no matter what type of site it is. Not only is it an annoying advertiser, it is also one of the worse cases of 'ping-back' tracking & stats gathering that I have ever seen! Privacy seems to be of no concern

BUT even though I feel that way, I will allow the site as even I do not think it is fair to block a whole site that is not devoted to advertising. I think when I first entered that string some time back, I though it was an ad server, not a real service. So for that I am sorry. I have removed it for now

I intend to add this one to my person list then, so would just Adultfriendfinder be ok? Is that a fast one? FPs? Or should I use what was posted above? Thanks.

Rick that page also a nasty tracker. On the front page there is a JOIN NOW! link, and inside that page there is a 1x1 gif with a really long url, containing info of the time and date of your session, ip, language, country, city, referer and even page rendering time....

Well, to be fair. I just want to block the ads part and leave the actual domain intact as the site itself is really not an adserver. But if I have to put that block back I will. I could just whitelist the actual domain itself or its image structure.

There still may be many of the ads blocked elsewhere simply because of other filters. Keep you eyes open.
***Edit: actually there is another filter besides the obvious one that takes care of most of those ads.

While the below may be a bit too aggressive, here is how friendfinder/adultfriendfinder is handled by a popular hosts file http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.txt

Got a suspicion that, not all, but many problems with friendfinder may be due to 3rd parties abusing both it and relevant affiliate programs.

I actually think that adultfriendfinder has cleaned up their act a bit and has stopped a lot of their earlier ad-spamming practices. I think they are actually starting to see themselves as a real 'dating' service. I also agree that some of the abuses are probably caused more by other hosts than of their own doing lately.Their tactics on the web (as far as I can see) seemed to have changed over the last few months or so.

I did go out and try to find abuses on the net by them ... but to tell you the truth, I had a very difficult time trying to find any that would warrant a blocking of their domain itself. They are NOT an ad company per say but do have ads on other sites. A lot of them are taken care of by other filters. So for now, I will just allow it and watch carefully.
