eBay's sponsored links

Post by The Masked Marauder »

I was searching eBay for some computer case fans today. I did a search on the keyword "evercool" and got a dozen hits. I also got a large box on the right with "Sponsored Links". Here's the script's URL:

http://adcmd.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &site_id=0
&page_type=ebay_computers_%26_networking&searchresult=13&keywords=evercool
&catestr=%7C%7CComputers+%26+Networking%7CDesktop+%26+Laptop+Components%7C
&div_ids=sunshine_left,sunshine_right,sunshine_top,sunshine_bottom&browserwidth=1029

I told Adblock to screen out "http://adcmd.ebay.com/*", and it removed the nuisance.

@ MM:

This had no ill effects?

Sounds like
*http://adcmd.*
... might make a nice string. :)

I meant to post this under "FILTER ADDITION SUGGESTIONS", but I clicked on the wrong button, then couldn't delete it and repost. Oh well....

Back to the topic at hand: I wasn't sure if I should be more specific and just block eBay's adcmd machine, or be more generic and block adcmd in anyone's domain. I haven't seen adcmd pop up anywhere else, which is why I limited it to eBay's domain.

So far, I haven't noticed any ill effects from this block. eBay's pages are rendering just fine minus the Sponsored Links ads.
