Hi,
i've noticed that when using EasyList or EasyList Germany not all video ads of The Daily Show are blocked. When i click on the provided link there are no ads, but when i select a different ep at the bottom there are. For The Colbert Report no ads are blocked.
Dr. Evil's filter list (also one of those in abp filter subscriptions) blocks all of those ads fine.
Thanks for looking into this, since those ads are particularly annoying.

Hi again,
problem solved by adding the following custom filter:
It seems that the already existing filter does not take into account that sometimes the ads will come from /pfadx/mtvi.sy/

||doubleclick.net/pfadx/*.mtvi.*/$third-party,object_subrequest

It's /pfadx/*.mtvi.sy/ of course..e80 wrote: the ads will come from /pfadx/mtvi.sy/

I also noticed that http://ad.doubleclick.net/crossdomain.xml was not blocked for The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, so i added thedailyshow.com, colbertnation.com and comedycentral.com to this filter:
Not sure what crossdomain.xml does, but i gathered since it's blocked on other sites might as well block it on these too.
Code: Select all
||doubleclick.net^$third-party,object_subrequest,domain=atom.com|cbs4denver.com|darkhorizons.com|fandango.com|fox.com|foxbusiness.com|foxnews.com|gametrailers.com|g4tv.com|mtv.co.uk|myfoxphoenix.com|newsweek.com|nytimes.com|play.it|thedailygreen.com|sbsun.com|space.com|spike.com|thewire.com|washingtonpost.com|wired.com|wsj.com|wwe.com|thedailyshow.com|colbertnation.com|comedycentral.com
I can't find any ads on the sites you mentioned. Either they are gone or an appropriate filter was added in the meantime.

The ads still show up for me: http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/8140/dailyshowad.png
That disabled filter in blockable items list is from my ad blocking rules.

Have you updated EasyList? I added thedailyshow.com to the doubleclick filter.

For some reason that particular filter was disabled in my Easy List. Must be some failure on my part. It's all blocked now.

The new 16:9 eps spam a lot of object subrequests from 174.129.6.226/tracker/c1001/. I'm not entirely sure, but this one might be worth adding to EasyPrivacy (it doesn't break playback at least):

Seems like doubleclick stuff is still being loaded for DailyShow videos linked on third-party sites. I added mtvi.* since video ads have been served from mtvi.sy in the past (see thread's 2nd post). Currently there are none, but they have a tendency of showing up every once in a while.
This gif also seems suspicious:
Code: Select all

Erunno added filters for the images earlier today (https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/f85f02700996), although Ares2 later removed them (https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/d433b850b4ff). I would rather like to know why...
What about the other filter then?
Because Ares2 was more diligent and blocked the script(s) responsible for calling the tracking pixels directly. The filters became redundant.Michael wrote:Erunno added filters for the images earlier today (https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/f85f02700996), although Ares2 later removed them (https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/d433b850b4ff). Changed the filter for the mtv ads: https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/c5ee5fbbd2a6
They changed the IP to 204.236.233.138. Maybe a more general rule without the IP and possibly domain filtered is in order? Although there are probably quite a few domains if this is used all over mtv's stuff.Erunno wrote:https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/f90d8e478f73

Imo it doesn't make sense to have both the IP and a domain filter. That way the filter breaks when they change the IP _and_ on sites that aren't in the domain filter (comedycentral.com, indecisionforever.com, mtv.com, also all third-party sites with embedded comedy central/mtv stuff).
Maybe /tracker/event? could be considered? If that's too general i'd say go back to 204.236.233.138/tracker/ without the domain filter.

Removed the domain exception. Let's see how this works. I'm hopeful that they won't change the IP too often.

184.73.199.40 is the new IP. /tracker/event? should be reconsidered imo, if only for a trial period.
Code: Select all
http://184.73.199.40/tracker/event?bytes%5Floaded=37596946&session%5Ftime=1376918&measured%5Fbandwidth=2850&connection%5Fid=1&video%5Fposition=143710&session%5Fid=B82BF68D%2DBDC5%2D20DB%2DB012%2D20CF7E2316F4&play%5Ftime=206233&time%5Fplaying=131000&custom%5Fsummed%5Fquality%5Fmetric1=2%2E35&framerate=100&custom%5Fsummed%5Fengagement%5Fmetric=1%2E37&frames%5Fdropped=0&play%5Fid=3&custom%5Fsummed%5Fquality%5Fmetric2=0&type=play%5Fstatus&connection%5Ftime=1376918&buffer%5Ffilled=32477&buffer%5Ftotal=6000
Added (https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/44e48cb93e75)
EasyPrivacy only blocks specific tracking systems with general filters.
Code: Select all
||184.73.199.40/tracker/$third-party
Code: Select all
||204.236.233.138/tracker/$third-party,domain=~skytide.ip
The issue is that /tracker/event? could be applied to more than one system, not just the one provided by Skytide.

As you said is also a content delivery network, in my opinion block completely conviva.com isn't a good idea because surely it causes false positives.
That's why i restricted it to two domains where blocking seems to break nothing. It might be tracking because it spams subrequests similar to ||184.73.199.40/tracker/ (although not as many).
I am disinclined to block items from content delivery networks, especially given that the apparent tracking folder, ||184.73.199.40/tracker/, is already filtered by EasyPrivacy.
