I stumbled across some adds in the DailyMail which seem to have a Beta tag which are not being blocked.

I turned off acceptable ads, tried both Adblock and Adblock Plus in Chrome.

a small ad in bottom of page (middle banner)

and some videos do not play using uBo, when I click on other videos. (black screen)

Hi intense :)

For me, the problem is in ublock filters. The strange thing is that sometimes the videos do not load. with ublock filters list OFF, all videos working well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lke1Jhiqytg

should be one of these filters (or not). i dont know how to whitelist
https://i.imgur.com/jO59Aae.png

no problem with ABP

No problems for me.

However, I noted you disabled ublock privacy, ublock unbreak, easyprivacy. This is very bad.
Reset uBo to the default settings, remove (if any) custom filters for dailymail, purge all caches and update the lists. Test again.

Using Default settings.

I removed the uBlock filter list, and I added all the dailymail filters inside the uBlock filters list, except the I11C filter. and it works well.

this is the problematic filter for me:

Code: Select all

dailymail.co.uk##+js(abort-on-property-read.js, I11C)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5xLyUFImxI

strange but true  what does that filter?
  • uBlock Origin v1.18.2 + uBlock Extra
Chrome Versión 72.0.3626.109 (Build oficial) (64 bits)
Update:

Testing: dailymail.co.uk#$#abort-on-property-read I11C in ABP appear black screen, but you can play videos

yes... the Instart logic

another strange thing.. using default settings the videos working well with "Chrome DevTools" (F12) open.
https://i.imgur.com/u8jtCRO.png

I remember that the same issue happened to me with another web with instart logic. In that case it happened with the ads. they disappeared with Chrome DevTools open. I remember that I shared a video in that post.

but I can not find the post. someone will have deleted it.

I second that I have no issues on that site as long as default uBO filters are enabled.

I have found another alternative solution, without removing the filter I11C

after adding the below filters , updating the page with CTRL + F5 the videos seem to work correctly:

Code: Select all

/mol-adverts.js$script,domain=dailymail.co.uk
||scripts.dailymail.co.uk/static/mol-adverts/*/mol-adverts.desktop.css
Without that filters, black screen in the most of videos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRdf4t7HdyM

Update:

with only this filter also works, excluding the CSS filter :

Code: Select all

/mol-adverts.js$script,domain=dailymail.co.uk
information to add:

inside of this script "mol-adverts.js" you can find words like instart logic or adblock.

Script URL:

Code: Select all

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/static/mol-adverts/1244/mol-adverts.js
using uBlock Origin in Chrome

I blocked the overlay but the site locks the page?

All fine for me using uBo, maybe it's a consequence of NoScript, just disable NoScript for dailymail and test again

DM has been plastering this banner for the past two days. I am running UBlock using default filters. I have no script blockers. Thoughts?

- browser version ? uBo version ?
- use only default settings in uBo
- update all the lists (purge caches + update now)

Sorry.
Firefox 69.0.1 (32-bit)
uBlock Origin 1.22.2

Updated and purged again just now, and the banner is still up.

Tested on FF - 64bit / chrome, no such issue.

Could you test in FF - 64bit or chrome ?

Tested on Chrome, and it works fine. No banner. Strange.

Not sure how to test FF/64 bit though.

Edit: Chrome Version 76.0.3809.132 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Installed and ran FF/64 Portable. No banners on DM.
So does this mean FF/32 is the culprit?

You could reset your FF 32-bit (first save / sync your bookmarks, passwords etc), reinstall uBo and test again. Or use only FF 64-bit version.

Both options sound like a lot of work. I'll have to think about it. Maybe I'll just abandon DM and switch to Telegraph.
But I appreciate your help troubleshooting the issue. Thanks.
