Website:
https://www.facebook.com/messages/

Example:
Embedded ads as seen here, http://imgur.com/a/KRPqr.

Issue:
This page intentionally randomizes the class of this element, and uses other methods to obfuscate the ad from targeting.

Potential Solution:
The <div> containing the ad dose have this data bound to it.

Code: Select all

data-gt="{"appid":"1675476699405553","fbsource":"9924","ref":"ad","type":"click2canvas"}"
Notice "ref":"ad", this could potentially be used to target it.

PS: I would love to help if someone can point me in the right direction.

It seems Facebook might have changed something.

I am subscribed to https://easylist-downloads.adblockplus.org/fb_annoyances_full.txt but half an hour ago Facebook ads in the right sidebar ads started appearing. I cleared cache and updated everything but that didn't help.

The main EasyList subscription does not appear to block the ad panes on the right column in Facebook. These used to work well. After getting a little fed up I've found adding the following 3 custom rules does the trick (though they leave a little white space in the pane - this is preferable to the ads):

Code: Select all

facebook.com###pagelet_ego_pane .uiHeader.uiHeaderTopBorder.mbs.uiSideHeader
facebook.com##.ego_unit
facebook.com###pagelet_ego_pane .ego_unit
Strangely, not seeing anything similar in the main lists of the FB Annoyances list.

I appreciated the main news feed items are alot harder to target, specially with Facebook moving the goal posts. So will try the GreasyMonkey trick later.

HTH.

Hey @zadsoft, thanks for the update! Those filters are working for me. I've added them to our KB article, in fact.

Code: Select all

Hi, Im using maxhton and a few months ago ABP stopped working in facebook for me, the ads are still here, in the "Home" section, I tried almost everything like adding more filter lists but it doesn't works  , and I don't like to use third-party applications like "FB purity". Any solutions? maybe a custom filter code? thanks. Example of ad:

@-Mark-, which filter list(s) will block the sponsored posts on Facebook? I didn't see any in the list that claimed to do that.

Also, Tampermonkey + Facebook Unsponsored doesn't seem to be working anymore. :(

Rhana, Those sponsored ads need to be reported. I never said those lists are blocking ads on facebook. Those ads are natively embedded on the page, so once you report wait for someone to come up with a filter. Facebook introduces new code everyday, so whenever something changes or something in their ads model is added, those ads appear back. I'm not on facebook, so I can't suggest any filters for this one.

Facebook.com since tonight Facebook.com begun to put Advertisement in middle of Video since.

It happen both on the Main site and in the mobile app too from the comment of other users.

The add stop the video in the middle for ~20 seconds after the video resume, it's VERY annoying since it 'happen on short cat/animal videos of 1-2 minutes.

Screenshot of the advertisement playing on "The Dodo" post/video on my feed: http://i.imgur.com/yv2QGmu.png

Screenshot of the console with the poster image from the video advertisement: http://i.imgur.com/TkyT1aO.png

Screenshot showing where the HTML code is in the console for the advertisement: http://i.imgur.com/74t0hfo.png

Here's the HTML code extracted and linted where the advertisement appears: https://bpaste.net/show/ecfe3f6c562b

Let me know if you need more information.

Apparently Facebook is rolling out its new mid-roll video ads in stages. Not everyone is getting them yet. From The Motley Fool:

Code: Select all

https://www.fool.com/investing/2017/02/13/get-ready-because-facebook-has-a-new-annoying-ad-f.aspx
Facebook is being cautious with mid-roll ads, rolling them out to a small portion of users and publishers at a time. Zuckerberg told investors, "The early trends are good," so we could see an expansion in the near future. Facebook will continue to tread lightly, but improving the quality of the average video on its platform and strongly vetting the mid-roll ads to ensure they're relevant to users and the content they're watching should help it maintain those good results.
