Rick,
I had to remove the @@|https://* whitelist entry from your EasyList filter in order to block an annoying ad. Within the past couple weeks, my broadband ISP (Road Runner cable) has started inserting banner ads in their web mail pages. The ads are sourced from advertising.com, but the *advert* entry wasn't catching it because the web mail page is a secure HTML link. I looked at the source code for the web page, and Road Runner appears to be generating the whole thing (including the ads) on their server before sending it to my PC.
Removing the exception for https pages did the trick. I'm left with a white bar down the right side of the window ("Collapse blocked elements" has no effect on the removed ads), but I can live with that. I have a screen capture with the sidebar listing if you'd like to see it. Unfortunately, I don't have a web site to save the image to, so I can't link it into this message. If you send me your e-mail address, I'll send you the capture along with the web page's source code (a pretty short listing).

No need to send the screenshot, Mike. The Masked Marauder wrote:

1. I have remove https from the whitelist (a new subscription update should end that).
2. The reason that some spaces do not (usually) get taken out is that they are being held open by something else there .... sometimes they are in a row in a table or a table or iframe has a pre-defined height.
If you right-click in the white space, does it give you an option to block an iFrame?

Thanks. This wouldn't be an issue with most secure URLs, but someone, somewhere, just has to abuse it....rick752 wrote:I have remove https from the whitelist (a new subscription update should end that).
When I right-click and select "Adblock Frame...", this is the entry in the "New filter" blank:rick752 wrote:If you right-click in the white space, does it give you an option to block an iFrame?

However, when I select "Open sidebar" and check the address list, this is the site that got blocked:
http://servedby.advertising.com/site=68 ... s=1/optn=1
With no whitelisting of https connections, the ad can't sneak through - a quick and easy solution.

Sorry, Mike ... I must have missed this thread somewhere.
Did you fix this iframe? Just add:
*side_ad_page*
... to your filter (remove the iframe one you listed above if you are using it).
Then let me know if it works ok with roadrunner. If it does, I'll add it to the filter.

Actually, you already have a filter that handles the problem nicely, once the https whitelist was removed:
*advert*
I still have some dead space down the right side of the page, but no more ads. Do you want me to try the iFrame tweak to see if the dead space disappears, too?
