Tab Effect - this is cool!

Post by rick752 »

Even though this extension has come out of nowhere to rival Adblock Plus for the #1 spot on AMO, I have to give a plug for this one.

Tab Effect is a truly fun and unique way of switching between tabs in Firefox that is very visually interesting. It makes all of your tabs change like they are on a 3D rotating square .... it runs off of DirectX 8 or higher.

Can be found here:

... give it a try.

I guess I should probably add that while it is a bit slower switching tabs, you probably should have a fairly fast pc with a decent video card.

Doesn't work in the nightlys (heading toward Firefox 3). To bad to I'd like to see it. I'll have to install Firefox 2.x and take a look I guess.

Any videos somewhere where I can see this with less trouble?

The extension's preview is pretty straight-forward: when you switch tab, the page area rotates and bring forward new page.

I do have a fast computer, so it's a smooth transition, however I'm used to instant... everything. The first thing I do after installing windows is disable all those annoying, inefficient, memory eating UI fading/animating effects. They make me pause.

Thanks Sheepy. I thought there was more to it. I guess people really do like eye candy. Some seem to think they don't, but this would prove otherwise.

I'm with you I like things clean. I like things to look good and react fast, but to still be clean. I guess that's all in a persons own prospective though.

I just thought that I would throw that out for you to see. I have disabled it because it IS slower.

.... but I still like it (at least until the novelty wears off) :)

I thought I'd keep it for a day. At the end it lasted for less then half an hour.

And no, there are no options whatsoever so it can't speed up or switch to another effect. I may try again when it does. :D

I thought it was too cool when I first discovered it. However, I share many other people's sentiment that it's too slow! I look forward to the next version.
What, me worry?

The novelty wore off in a couple of days for me too. It's gone.
