Firefox 57.0.4.
You install uBlock, you update its filters, and everything is fine.
Firefox privacy settings:

filters are fine after closing Firefox:

But once you set the private mode...:

...all the standard uBlock filters are gone after restarting the browser:

You may update them whatever often, but once you close Firefox - they will be gone.

Sadly I cannot: "An owner of this repository has limited the ability to open an issue from new users."
If someone else does that it would be nice.
I forgot to say: it's the 64-bit version of Firefox. The latest one.

Firefox 58 private mode, still the same.
Strangely enough, initially unselected filters after selecting them update themselves and keep new filter bases after browser restart, but those which were selected by default, lose updates everytime after closing the browser:

Firefox 61 private mode, still the same.
May be it's better to change how the extention preserves its filter lists?
I mean, I would like to use the extention with both Chrome & Firefox, but I only can do it with Chrome, because in Firefox it cannot save any filter updates at all.
