Goodbye G, hello Rick.

Post by gordo »

Been a subscriber to Piercieve's Filterset.G since around the time that FFx 1.0 came out. He was updating it himself almost every day for a while there... but it's more or less completely dead now and he never organized a group of folks to carry the torch... dunno why, but I guess that's his perogative.

Anyway, Rick, I hope you intend to keep this thing open and community driven so that it doesn't doesn't ever die a slow death.

Incidentally, kudos to you and the rest of the team. This list is fantastic and the element filterset is a nice extra touch. I can't figure out how it's so accurate without using the complex regular expressions that G relied on, but it seems to be doing a stellar job on the 50 or so sites I've tried so far.

Only one obvious omission: I noticed no adsfac.net -- any reason?

Keep up the awesome work,
Gordo.

Hi Gordo:

Thanx for the kind words and welcome to the forum :)

Hmmm, I guess we have simply just never run across "adsfac.net" before. Could you give me a page example that it appears on? If it does exist I will surely add it.

As far as "dying a slow death" goes ... we're still here ... although I must admit, it seems like we have most things covered in the filters so it has been a bit quiet here (and that would make it a "good" thing).

We were all "balls to the wall" for the first half of this year, but with all of the excellent help I've had here from my 'team', we pretty much have 'tweaked' 2 great filterlists in a minimal amount of time. I'm very proud of what we have accomplished here .... G should have done it like this. This is too large a job for one person to take on themselves.

ps: regexps are not really an advantage. They usually just LOOK more complicated.

I searched to see if I could find the site I noticed that had it, but it doesn't seem to be active. I think adsfac.net served adware several years ago and there are still some webpages that contain links back to it, but the links appear to be dead.

Hmm. The site itself does redirect to facilitatedigital.com which is a marketing company.

And google's search result does indicate that it is an ad server, with functional links:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ad ... gle Search
http://adsfac.net/ag.asp?cc=SCR002.10611.0
