Easylist Commit Duels

Post by paunov »

Hello,

I have analyzed easylist github commits (easylist/easylist/) and found some issues which might look interesting. Sometimes, when authors do not agree with each other, "commit duels" happen.
For instance, in 2011, there were disagreements on the format of list elements:

----------------------------------------------

Name: gr.burstne t.com/crossdomain.xml$object-subrequest,domain=filefront.com from easylist_whitelist.txt

timesAdded: 3 by [u'Michael']
timesDeleted: 3 by [u'famlam', u'Ares2', u'Khrin']
2011-04-28 16:03:34 : Michael added gr.burstnet.com... | commit.hexsha: d83627bca2a1c2bb0a8ea4922515d65fccbd3a9b
2011-04-28 16:56:29 : Khrin deleted gr.burstnet.com... | commit.hexsha: 61a069613c263350c8222fa1d379a8254bb1380c
2011-04-28 17:12:29 : Michael added gr.burstnet.com... | commit.hexsha: 176c2aef5885b97e977cb5392a17a11f9b53d1ce
2011-04-30 00:29:04 : Ares2 deleted gr.burstnet.com... | commit.hexsha: 9bc9fa47fdab09ccf1e1ce4dcc68b2dc9b4a6322
2011-04-30 08:35:04 : Michael added gr.burstnet.com... | commit.hexsha: b59c9e0fd674fb5ab84bec6686aacc6e3efc465c
2011-11-13 14:13:17 : famlam deleted gr.burstnet.com... | commit.hexsha: bb469a59f6b6ac88f20977d7ddcc4d480380eba1
----------------------------------------------

Ares2, famlam and Khrin were changing Michael's version of

Code: Select all

gr.burstnet.com/crossdomain.xml$object-subrequest,domain=filefront.com
to:

Code: Select all

gr.burstnet.com/crossdomain.xml$domain=filefront.com,object-subrequest
There were more cases like the one provided above.

On the other hand, I found longer (in time) "duels" as well, which may be more interesting. For instance, a debate between Khrin and MonztA on whether pubexchange.com should be listed in easylist_adservers.txt directly:

----------------------------------------------

Name: pubexchange.com from easylist_adservers.txt

timesAdded: 3 by [u'Khrin']
timesDeleted: 3 by [u'MonztA', u'monzta']
2014-02-11 15:49:17 : Khrin added pubexchange.com | commit.hexsha: ff35504c2742650e605448b20125b83dec2b6991
2015-05-08 09:39:46 : MonztA deleted pubexchange.com | commit.hexsha: 2ba741c9c030f230b1e10554ae493bee3a18a7cf
2015-10-08 21:49:02 : Khrin added pubexchange.com | commit.hexsha: 4b02166165e8e15275c7d82d642e7aae7efb9344
2015-11-16 21:56:31 : MonztA deleted pubexchange.com | commit.hexsha: bae550cf2350a49ca7f25398a1c771aa744e105c
2016-06-03 11:38:35 : Khrin added pubexchange.com | commit.hexsha: aca0d0cf09a7fcc3742c05321621aa66555c778e
2016-07-12 21:36:00 : monzta deleted pubexchange.com | commit.hexsha: e4d6922a44fa37bb62e5bc330fad4f46a866c71c

You do realize that half of those people aren't even contributing to the project any longer. It's been 7 years and 2+ in some cases. Websites change all the time at one point they had ads then they didn't so there's a lot of back and forth going on. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a "duel", but whatever floats your boat.
