Re: PC World's "Full Disclosure" column
Do you realize that this makes me want to actually purchase a copy of PC World magazine? This is the kind of of integrity that makes me want to read something. Stephen Manes is the "computer curmudgeon" columnist. He's brutally honest about hardware and software, much to the manufacturer'...

New Mozilla releases
I'm wondering, why does the main page still say 2.0.0.0 and I have this version and when I do a check for updates it claims non available? It takes Mozilla at least half a day to fully update their systems for a new release. I spotted Thunderbird 2.0.0.4 on File Hippo this morning. Then I went to M...

Google Analytics isn't in the EasyList or EasyElement filters. It's in the optional ABP Tracking Filter, which Rick clearly explains: For blocking major web tracking services. * NOTICE * Because of some (valid) complaints from people who use the EasyList and don't want their site-stats blocked by de...

You asked for it, you got it
If two extensions can collide there should be an alert somewhere, IMHO. This is not a case of two extensions colliding. You deliberately install AdBlock Plus, for the express purpose of removing ads. You subscribe to filtering lists so you don't have to build your own. You know that ABP is there (a...

How to block the ESPN video
I assume that you're talking about the ESPN Motion ad/news feed. I don't think there's any way to block just the ad without taking out the news feed, too. If you want to zap them anyway, add this string to your personal block list: *static.espn.go.com* After I did this, all I got was a white square ...

Not to mention the security problems that have been fixed since Firefox 1.0 was released. If you keep using old versions like this, then you're surfing the 'net with a "Kick Me!" sign taped to your back.

Obnoxious flash ad
Check out this web page: Hundreds of police officers show up for canceled protest http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=local&id=4705822 It pops up an obnoxious flash ad of a "consumer advocate" hawking custom window treatments. I pinned down the offending URL to http://manager.rovi...

CNET has posted a showdown between Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7. Firefox won all 5 rounds (no surprise there). Check it out:

Macs aren't immune, just difficult to crack
Finally, I can still say "my Macs have *never* been compromised by any virus, trojan, worm or hacker, and I've been using Macs since May of 1992". I worked for a military contractor in the late 80's, and we got our Macs from GE Rents. Almost every one of them arrived infected with the Sco...

I'll second that. I don't like companies "peeking over my shoulder" when I'm surfing the web, especially when they don't bother to ask my permission first.

Firefox 2.0 final has been released
I spotted a couple web sites today that said Firefox 2.0 final has been released. I checked Mozilla's home page, but it still shows 1.5.0.7 (as of 11 AM). However, when I modified the download link to say 2.0, it worked: Mozilla Firefox 2.0 (Windows, English) http://www.mozilla.com/products/download...

eBay's sponsored links
I was searching eBay for some computer case fans today. I did a search on the keyword "evercool" and got a dozen hits. I also got a large box on the right with "Sponsored Links". Here's the script's URL: http://adcmd.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?SunShineAds&cat_id=80146&site...
