Re: Overhauling Changes to WHOIS

More limitations on WHOIS can be seen following the above events. DENIC the German domain registry now requires you to fill out a form stating your purpose before you can see the registrant details of domains. Earlier it only required you to solve a CAPTCHA to see the data. Looks like the WHOIS chan...

Even government websites have been hacked and injected with Coinhive Govt. websites of US, UK, Australia that were using the text-to-speech plugin Browsealoud were injected with the Coinhive cryptojacker. Re: Cryptojacking

Someone tried to inject Coinhive in iTunes by putting the cryptojacking script in podcast names. Wonder how it got past Apple's security checks. Its not working, i.e., it does not mine/activate Coinhive but here is the podcast with the cryptojacking podcast names: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast...

Re: Tech support scammers find new way to jam Google Chrome

Like the vibrating ads on mobiles. Why was that API even allowed? The only use I ever encountered was by the malicious ads. Update (2) (2018-02-07): Firefox and Brave seem to be affected by this bug as well (both vendors were informed). Firefox and Brave are affected as well according to their updat...

Re: How and Why Scam Call Centers Work

eclark Calls from Toll-free numbers are most likely scams or for telemarketing. No need to pick them up. If the Caller ID displays an incorrect area code or phone number or doesn't display the number at all. It is most likely a scam as well. A good thing to do is register with the Do Not Call regis...

Re: Overhauling Changes to WHOIS

This is what I meant by WHOIS masking and I know GoDaddy has been doing it for some years now hence my next line " GoDaddy was already only showing the name of the registrant ". Hiding even the name of the registrant via asterisks is new. I was wrong. Looks like GoDaddy began limiting/masking WHOIS...

Re: How and Why Scam Call Centers Work

The guys from the Reply All podcast actually tracked down a company running a call center scam operation. They even went to India to meet these guys. The company was apparently raking in about $2 million a year and of course the employees were being measly salaries (as also reported in the Guardian ...

Re: Overhauling Changes to WHOIS

Lanik What I meant is this https://www.whois.com/whois/7hops.com . This domain is not using WHOIS Privacy and as be seen the name is clearly masked ( ******** ******** ). The WHOIS info by GoDaddy was already limited but this masking is new. GoDaddy is also going strict on who is allowed full Port ...

Google has very little public info: https://domains.google.com/registrar?s= ... .com&chp=w
It shows the full WHOIS record. Not sure what you mean by "very little public info".

Re: Overhauling Changes to WHOIS

Lanik Do you mean WHOIS privacy? I meant that they limit and mask the information in Port 43 WHOIS lookups. Like for example the domain bmobile.com if you do a public WHOIS query on it (through CLI or a website like whois.com ) this is what you get: Domain Name: bmobile.com Registrar URL: http://ww...

Re: Overhauling Changes to WHOIS

The results of ICANN not enforcing WHOIS compliance can already be seen. GoDaddy has starting masking WHOIS registration details of its customers through the public Port 43 lookup . Details such as name, e-mail, phone number are hidden ( Registrant, Admin and Tech contact data ) when a domain is loo...

Re: What will Google's ad filter actually block ?

I am waiting for it to launch. Would like to see if its more effective than an extension or if it can work alongside adblocking extensions.

I hope it can be disabled, in case causes any problem with the adblock extensions.

Re: Cryptojacking

@-Mark- Kind of, the one @intense suggested seems much more user friendly though. Would've liked to see one as a globe but looks like it isn't available.

@Lanik Not sure how that would help with a clock map.

@smed79 Not what I was looking for but still useful. Thanks.

It might even seem surprising that not only do these centers work but are thri...
