Re: Forum hanging up

If you don't mind sending me a screen shot of your browser when you get that error message. When I called Powweb they obviously didn't believe me (surprise, surprise ) Hopefully I can catch the forum doing that in the act and take it to them. I'm almost inclined to throw the forum on a Linux b...

Re: Forum hanging up

What it does is changes the indexes in the database from what I'm able to gather. Every little thing we do on this site has an affect on the database. Some times there are bunch of stale entries that are no longer needed by doing that little bit of "maintenance" you're forcing the database to dump i...

Re: Forum hanging up

I narrowed it down with the slow database response. I have another database driven tool that access it and I see the same thing as well which leads me to believe something with the way they run their database server isn't right. I'm actually considering switching to another host. Not until some time...

Re: IMDB element suggestion [waiting]

Yes that does it. I have EasyList and Element installed nothing else pretty much. I've seen that since I've been using your filters.

EDIT: I usually take care of things like this with a Stylish CSS filter.

Thats what I usually do is login to phpMyAdmin and optimize all rows. That fixes things for a little while but it will be slow again later on.

Re: Forum hanging up

Thanks I've stumbled onto something interesting. Powweb uses phpMyAdmin 2.8.0 and its god damn slow POS. I was reading their forums and they are suggesting using MQA (MySQL Quick Admin) http://www.mysqlquickadmin.com I've installed it and it works very good so far I like it. Now I don't have to go t...

Re: Forum hanging up

Yes from what I can tell its limited in php.ini file, I can edit it and set the size to whatever I desire. I have no idea what the limit is and I'm afraid to set it too high and have something crash, so I guess we'll play it by ear and if it gets worse I'll up the memory limit per script to 64 the d...

Re: Forum hanging up

I logged into SQL and trimmed the fat sorta speak out of the DB. Before it was 20mb+ now its a little over 12mb so that might help speed things along. I can tell its a little bit faster already. I also upped the amount of memory the scripts can use to 40mb a script and increased the time outs.

Re: Forum hanging up

Thats Powweb for you they stink. :( Its worse for me since I gotta go across country to get there. I get quite a few time outs myself, unfortunately its related to their server I don't think there is anything I can do about it.

I've just updated both easylist subs and added the element hiding rule given in this thread (which shows zero hits)and I'm still seeing ads. What can users do to help this? Create a new profile with just ABP and EasyList filters browse to the site in question. If you see no ads then something in yo...

I have NoScript and the site loads fine whether I allow scripts or not. However I do see a lot of 404s in a header. IMO another example of poorly designed site.

Re: Adobe patches nasty security hole

If you use Adobe Reader, update it to version 8.1.1 . Personally, I prefer to use Foxit Reader . It's smaller and faster than Adobe Reader (and it isn't afflicted with this security problem). I've been using it for a long time myself and had no problems with it. Really good alternative to Adobe Rea...
