Re: Adblock Plus 1.0 has been released
A lot. In November we has slightly less than 200,000 users on that filter subscription from what it seems. Hard to tell how many there are now (the numbers need to stabilize first) but I would say already over a million.

Merge EasyElement into EasyList?
I was thinking - is there still a reason for keeping EasyElement separate from EasyList, now that Adblock Plus 1.0 is released? EasyList+EasyElement combination is being promoted since December 1st in Adblock Plus, the user numbers are growing very fast - hard to tell until the numbers stabilize but...

I agree, finally! I am really relieved that this is done. Well, almost done (/me looks at documentation).

Got a mail from an EasyList user: The legitimate ad-free and hugely popular web site http://www.katherine-jenkins-international.com/ has 2 main web pages blocked because of the file name "banner" by the rule .com/banner$subdocument Those pages perfectly legitimate are: http://www.katherine...

forms.aweber.com layer ads [added]
http://www.jumbojoke.com/black_crayons_152.html shows a pretty annoying layer ad. The script responsible is http://forms.aweber.com/form/60/split_115601860.htm (yes, this is JavaScript despite the file ending). Note: you might need to clear cookies to see that ad.

Re: Opens tiny window
I CAN verify that selecting the OPTIONS from the Add-on box does not allow ANY OPTION box for ANY add-on to resize. Most people do not use the add-on 'options' to use ABP. Yes, and unfortunately that's something I cannot change. As to wrong window size when opened - I have no idea what would cause ...

Re: Introducing Malware Domains Filter
Ok, here is what I got: malwaredomains.com will only blacklist entire no-ip domains if the malware subdomains of those get too many. Since the no-ip service is so great for spreading malware, this policy can only get stricter (e.g. by blacklisting all no-ip domains by default). If it were only for f...

Re: Introducing Malware Domains Filter
Actually, I don't think it is a false positive. servehttp.com is just an alias for no-ip.com - you can put just about anything under that domain which is wide open for abuse of course. This makes it only logical that various no-ip aliases landed in the malware list. It is inconsistent however - whil...

Re: [Stats] Subscription Filter Stats
My mistake, I didn't do May's numbers. If I remember April correctly, June's numbers would be about a one million or more downloads higher ... You don't have to remember them, they are still in the statistics - at the very top ;) Yes, June numbers are 1.3 million higher than April's (> 200,000 new ...

Re: [Stats] Subscription Filter Stats
Actually, my math says at most 6 years. I hope that Intel&Co can keep up with this - I doubt that my server can handle 4096 times more trafficchewey wrote:Not a problem. In at most 11 years this will catch up with the world's population, automatically limiting additional server strain.

Re: [Stats] Subscription Filter Stats
Rick, you must consider that the numbers for May are incomplete - statistics for a few days were lost in the server transition. If you take this into account, 14.7 million downloads for June aren't anything extraordinary. Still, the amount of traffic in June was quite a bit higher than I expected (t...

Re: [Stats] Subscription Filter Stats
Rick, the stats from the last week indicate that there are at least 2.5 million EasyList subscribers (you get that number simply by adding up all downloads from Monday to Friday). AMO stats show 4 million daily active users for Adblock Plus - that translates in at least 6 million actual users. Prett...

Re: ablockplus.org is down [resolved]
Rick - yes, your calculation is absolutely correct. That's exactly what I realized while trying to make the server keep up with 150 requests per second for an hour. Main problem was that due to that load (actually, exhaustion of available connections) the server ended up serving less that 7 requests...

pics.rbc.ru
Got this from an Adblock Plus review: rbc.ru and cnews.ru are using annoying Flash banners that are relatively hard to block. This filter works however:
Note that $object is necessary, same server is used for valid JavaScript files for example.
Code: Select all

Re: ablockplus.org is down [resolved]
Sure, once I get near dangerous traffic amounts again I'll come back to you - but for now (and at least one more year) we are fine. I replaced Apache by nginx so server load/memory use won't become an issue any time soon, and we aren't anywhere near the traffic limit of the new server either. Note t...

Re: ablockplus.org is down [resolved]
7 per second? You are joking, right? After one day of downtime the connections start coming in at a rate of 150 per second. Every time I restarted the server it immediately got overloaded again. Luckily, the server can easily handle that load now (and quite some more). Note to self: Fallback mechani...

Re: !* adblockplus.org is moving to a new server
Apparently, the move started - the domain listing is now showing to the new nameservers, and the web tools I tried resolve adblockplus.org into the new IP address. My DSL router still remembers the old IP address however, and it won't change for the next 18 hours. In general, it should take up to 24...

Re: adblockplus.org is down
According to the provider, the server load is back to normal - it was being caused by the script that kept merged subscriptions up-to-date (which is switched off now), unfortunately there was no way for me to tell that this script is generating any server load whatsoever. I can probably restore adbl...

Re: adblockplus.org is down
I managed to forward adblockplus.org to adblockplus.mozdev.org - put up a temporary site there. Cannot do the same for easylist.adblockplus.org however, MozDev certainly won't be happy about that kind of traffic. The provider had to take down the site because it caused extreme load on the server. No...
