The EasyList filter

Code: Select all

.com/banners/$image,object,subdocument
is blocking images such as
http://www.dwiextreme.com/banners/dwiextremel-4.png on http://www.dwiextreme.com
and https://4-ps.googleusercontent.com/x/ww ... 7kc03y.jpg on http://www.stepmania.com (should be near the top of the page; to show that URL again, it's:)

Code: Select all

https://4-ps.googleusercontent.com/x/www.stepmania.com/www.dwiextreme.com/banners/xdwiextreme-gti9.png.pagespeed.ic.ckDP7kc03y.jpg
These images are not advertisements; there are no commercial products sold through these sites, and the word "banner" in the DDR/StepMania community does not normally refer to advertising.

Note that http://www.stepmania.com uses Google Page Speed Service, so the exact URL of the image may change over time. (Specifically, http or https; 1 through 4 for the initial digit; potentially random identifier near the end)

For now I suggest either whitelisting or domain exceptions; my feeling, however, is that the offending filter has a high false-positive risk.

I tried looking in the private forum but couldn't find any discussion concerning the offending filter.
Note that I have edited my original post once, mainly to mention domain exceptions in the suggested fix.

Do you need more explanation regarding how Google Page Speed Service works or what sites constitute the DDR (Dance Dance Revolution)/StepMania community?
Both of the offending images "really" originate from dwiextreme.com, but in the case of stepmania.com, Google Page Speed Service is proxying the image. I haven't yet found problems on other related sites.

In DDR and other music video games, a "banner" is an image shown on the song selection screen, typically containing the title, artist, and/or genre of the song. This is not to be confused with advertising banners which may be used on the sites in question.

Hi,
dwiextreme.com has been fixed (https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/53ca86a67e45, https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/a62c870632a8). Sorry, I forgot to update this topic.
regarding stepmania.com: it's still under discussion between the list authors (if we make it ||com/banners/ or add a whitelist)

Ok, thank you ... sorry for not testing dwiextreme.com a little more thoroughly before posting, as I probably was busy with other things.
