This is the latest generation of anti ad blocker code that can't be defeated with the current filters.
More and more networks are using this system of forced revenue generator to assure that their
sponsors ads are delivered, viewed and not bypassed by ad blockers.

From this point on this will become the norm forcing all of us to watch these annoying ads.

The only current solution for this annoyance is to mute these ads and let them play out. You can view
them but you don't have to listen to them, until a filter that can black them out becomes available.

videos no longer play after the commercial break using the filters posted.
If the filters are removed the anti adblock notice is displayed.

The four filters skip the pre-roll commercial but then the show never plays on this page:

https://www.nbc.com/late-night-with-seth-meyers/video/edie-falco-jordan-klepper-grace-coddington/3585145

Can someone help?

provide info: browser version, adblocker (version), filter lists. Disable all other extensions, test again using the 4 filters.

I'm using Windows 7 and Windows 10, Firefox 55.0.3, and uBlock Origin v1.14.10 with these filters:

Code: Select all

@@||nbc.com/generetic/scripts/ads.js
@@||nbcuadops-vh.akamaihd.net/$xmlhttprequest,domain=player.theplatform.com
and these 3rd-party filters (uBlock's default list):
uBlock filters
uBlock filters - Badware risks
uBlock filters - Privacy
uBlock filters - Unbreak
EasyList
EasyPrivacy
Malware Domain List
Malware domains
Peter Lowe’s Ad and tracking server list
I tried fewer filter lists, which didn't change anything.

The only other add-in is Lastpass, which is now disabled, although that doesn't seem to matter either.

I installed uBlock Origin (1.13.8, the one in the App Store) on Edge using all the defaults, plus the 3 filters above. It worked!

But when I configure uBlock on Firefox under Win7 or Win10 with the same lists and config, no joy. Same pattern: pre-roll ad skipped, then nothing, not even the spinner. I guess this means it's not EasyList, so thank you for the filters! But if you happen to have any potential solutions, please let me know. :-)

Could you try using FF 57 (beta) + uBo + the filters above ?

Update: After Edge played the first segment, the screen went black for the commercials and stopped. No more video. So it's not working right yet in Edge either.

Sorry, meant to mention that earlier, I had also cleared cache and recent cookies. Just cleared all NBC and ad* and cdn* cookies in FF. Pre-roll skipped but no video.

I refreshed Firefox, and now the video plays, but so do all the commercials. I don't know what's left to try. Any ideas, anyone?

Hmm, that would indicate the filters aren't working at all.

Are you outside the US, or on a proxy? At least some of the content is region locked now. If I go on a smartDNS proxy, often the ads will play as I assume the filters aren't intercepting it properly. I have to be on a real VPN (I am outside the US obviously).

Thanks for your response, Aquakitty. Right, it didn't seem to be doing anything. Today it's skipping the pre-roll, then nothing.

Good thought about proxies and VPNs. No proxy, but I do use a VPN. But there's no difference today whether I'm connected through the VPN or not. I'm in the US and connect through a US VPN server.

nbc.com status updates:

Using these filters nbc.com video no longer loads anything:

Tested in uBo / ABP - chrome browser, no issue here, after the ad the video is running fine.
Disable other extensions, test again.

I removed all custom filters, left only the ones you posted, closed the blowser, ran ccleaner,
loaded the video listed, but the video will not even start.

I'm using FF v56 x64, UBO v1.14.10 with all current default filters, and only the two lines you
posted but no joy, unless I white list nbc.

Using FF v56 portable the video starts but after the second or third commercial the video freezes
and it starts again from the very beginning. If I white list nbc it works fine without any issues.
UBO updated to v1.14.12 with all the default filters and only using the two nbc filters shown.

Using FF 56 portable, uBlock Origin 1.14.14, and either the two recent filters or the three earlier ones, no video plays. It just sits there mocking me. No other add-ins.

For any of you who can get it to work, exactly which filter lists are you using?

Since none of the filters are no longer effective on nbc the only solution that I found that works is to Whilelist nbc.com
in UBO Whitelist tab. I also had to remove all active filters for nbc that I had in the My Filters tab or the videos still did not start.
Try that to see if it works for you.
