Fire Icon on Threads?

Post by gotitbro »

So, I have been seeing this fire icon on some threads in some subforums. What is it for? What does it mean?

Image

Example URL: viewforum.php?f=62

That signifies a hot topic. PHPBB doesn't really have a icon legend. Don't ask me what the trigger is just trust the forum software knows what it's doing.

So basically, we don't know what defines a "Hot Topic" right, like how much activity or posts in a period of time just PHPBB knows that?

No but you could probably ask them yourself: https://www.phpbb.com/community/

smed79 Thanks for this, this is extremely useful. What is the "Link forum" one for?

Also, can this be added in the FAQ or somewhere similar as this would be really helpful for new site comers as well.

Lanik I meant with the "versus imgur" part.

I also noticed that you added an icon legend near the footer, nice. Add the fire icon one there too it was the most confusing one for me.

Comparatively speaking I like your icons a bit better. I found a better solution, go back to: viewforum.php?f=62 and scroll to the bottom. Now marvel at my genius.
Spoiler
In case it's not obvious yet this is an extension not something I put together in 15 minutes.
Have fun finding the other places where the Legend exists now.

smed79 That doesn't explain the role of Link Forum.

Dammit, here I was thinking we have a literal genius on our hand here

It's a thread that's been moved to a different forum.

Keeping original images and playing with the CSS is better ;-)
Lanik wrote:It's a thread that's been moved to a different forum.
It's just a link, e.g. http://example.com/

Then what is "Moved topic" for?

PHPBB > forum types > Link
The forum list displays a forum link like a normal forum. But instead of linking to a forum, you can point it to a URL of your choice.
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... ums_types/
As an example at the PHPBB forums, the subforum called "Area 51 Development Board" is a link.

Let's say someone posted in the wrong forum and we (the moderators) have to move the said thread. Once the move happens you'll see the topic in the original forum with the moved icon and the new forum. The new forum will be where the thread actually lives and the old forum is just a pointer/link/whatever you want to call it. Still confused?

Lanik Thanks for the explanation but I think the explanation fits "Moved topic" more. smed79 Example above seems to fit the use case for "Link forum", forum being the operative word here.

I think it's just smed79 trying to explain things when English isn't his (I assume) second/third/fourth/hundreds language.

AFAIK "Link Forum" doesn't exist.

@Lanik

Moved topic Image is different to Link forum Image.

"Link forum" can be created only via admin panel.

On forums, a rapid onslaught of responses from the members on a particular thread is considered a hot topic and here the hotness is associated with the fire icon.
