The Time Machine - If you could be...

Post by eighty5cacao »

...an Eloi or a Morlock, which would you choose?

(Note: This question is intended primarily for those who have read the original text of The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. Just watching the film adaptations is not really adequate for this discussion.)

Specifically, consider the following scenario: After you die, (insert name of divine power here) offers you the choice to be reincarnated as either an Eloi or a Morlock. You must choose one or the other; you do not have the option of saying "neither."
You will not be immortal in that form; each time you die, you will be reincarnated as another member of the same species. You will not be visited by any time travellers. Your conscious memories will not persist across reincarnations.

Which would you choose? Try to think about the issue from all angles (i.e., both practical and ethical). Try to explain briefly.
