The alternatives don't exactly sound much better, especially the suggestion of going "beyond static banners"; this method rather implies the use of video and sound to further divert attention from the content that people actually want to be presented.

To be honest: I only flipped through the article.

Yes, does not sound that good but I am curious what they exactly mean.
