authedmine.com

Post by Leseratte10 »

The "EasyPrivacy" list is blocking the Monero Miner from Coinhive. authedmine.com is a domain operated by Coinhive, but all the scripts on that page require explicit permission by the user before they start doing anything "bad". This blocking breaks web pages using the coinhive captcha.

This is the blocking entry:

Code: Select all

||authedmine.com^$third-party,domain=~coinhive.com
This only allows authedmine.com scripts to run on coinhive.com. Why? Authedmine.com hosts scripts for use in external web pages, and all of its scripts ask for permission. In my opinion, there is no need to block this. Can this be removed?

And may I ask why that bug report did just result in whitelisting that specific domain?

These scripts are not malicious. They are a legit alternative to captchas. They never start mining without consent. What's the point in explicitly whitelisting every domain that uses it, instead of allowing that domain?

Probably you should ask there, on github (another issue - that one seems blocked), as fanboy (ryan) is one of the easylist / easyprivacy auhors.

Is there another / better way to contact the maintainers of the easyprivacy list? I have created an github issue, https://github.com/easylist/easylist/issues/704, which has gotten 15 likes, and still has been closed without any comment by "Khrin".

I just don't understand it. Adblockers have been created because web advertisements became more and more annoying. The EasyPrivacy list has been created because more and more web pages started tracking their visitors.

Now a new company / person / group / whoever creates a new service, which does not track users, which asks the user for permission before doing anything, which does not display any annoying ad on a webpage but still allows webpage owners to get some money - and the EasyPrivacy guys block it? Why? Do they want webpage owners to continue using annoying ads?

https://github.com/easylist/easylist/issues/710 and https://github.com/easylist/easylist/issues/712

Looks like you've got your "friends" to reply and drum up some likes. How nice. I think there's no point dragging this one out.
