You need permission (for your drive ..)

However, describe the steps to get the issue

I came to report an issue on www.cnet.com and sorry I think I put it in the wrong section (I posted in unblocked content). I'm seeing this as well on www.msn.com. The page loads up ok but then goes crazy. The page goes really long and you can't really read the page anymore.

I have the following setup let me know if you need more details

Browser:

Google Chrome 62.0.3202.75 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Ad Blocker:

Adblock Plus 1.13.4 - From the Google Extension Store

And these subscriptions:

× Enabled Adblock Warning Removal List Last updated at 6:43:26 AM today
× Enabled EasyList Last updated at 6:43:27 AM today

OS:

I'm on a Mac 10.13.1 OS

These sites are using a very nasty advertising system.
ABP can not fight efficiently it, so you should disable ABP and install these extensions (working together)

ublock origin:

uBlock Origin Extra

Is it Ad Block Plus that is breaking the site? I can go post in their forums. I have not heard of ublock so just a little hesitant to try something else. I've used Ad Block Plus for a long time and it works well.

Just test it (uBo) see if works.
Don't post on ABP forum, it's about filters.

I just added ublock origin and turned off ad block plus and the site loads up fine. I had posted something in the ad block forums already before I saw this sorry. So why is Ad Block Plus causing this issue and this other one not. Don't they both use the same easylist.

cstreet I did't say ABP has an issue, I'm only saying that now ABP cannot fight efficiently against this system.

Ok but why does it break the site I understand not being able to fight something. I guess for now I'll use this other ad blocker extension as it seems to be ok.

MSN currently displayes the following message:

"Your current ad blocking software may be causing issues with this website. To fix, either disable your current ad blocker or switch to a different ad blocking solution"

I am switching to uBlock now

One of our developers investigated this. MSN is intentionally breaking the page as part of the g00/InstartLogic adtech (the nasty advertising system @intense referred to).

There are a few things users can do to "fix" the issue (make MSN content display properly):
 • They can whitelist MSN (and then will obviously see ads, but InstartLogic won't run) using this rule: @@||msn.com/$document
 • They can open Chrome's developer tools (and they won't see ads, and InstartLogic won't run) using the command: ctrl-shift-i (then they can close the developer tools again and it will continue to work for at least a while, at which point they'd need to open them up again)
 • They can visit MSN.com in Microsoft Edge or Firefox (which aren't affected as much by the InstartLogic stuff)
 • They can install uBlock Origin Extra (which will block the InstartLogic stuff) in addition to AdBlock or ABP
 • They can switch to AdBlock Premium (which will also block the InstartLogic stuff)
uBO Extra:

Code: Select all

AdBlock Premium:
