britishairways.com

Post by rajeshkumaryadav »

Hi Team,

In the file easyprivacy.txt I can see

Code: Select all

@@||britishairways.com/cms/global/scripts/applications/tracking/visualsciences.js
and due to this some major functionality of this website is being affected.

Could you please unblock/whitelist the url from the list? Or can you tell me the process to do so?

Note : visualsciences.js file is not generating ads then blocking this file is useless. I believe url contains 'tracking/visualsciences.js' this is why may be due to word 'tracking' list has enlisted as ad tracker. Please remove/whitelist this file.

Rajesh

Issue reported here

Code: Select all

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2016/04/19/ad-blockers-are-breaking-the-internet-study-finds/
We are using firefox on which your addon adb is installed. When I am removing easylist from checkbox of addon settings then my page is working fine. This way I came to know the problem is with easylist. Then I visited to official link of easylist and found below file is blocked :

Code: Select all

@@||britishairways.com/cms/global/scripts/applications/tracking/visualsciences.js
Additional info :

When we are enabling your ad blocker then it is blocking our javascript i.e. visualsciences.js [path is already mentioned in this ticket] and due to this javascript console is giving reference error for the variables.

I am a front developer and if any additional information you're require then you can consult with me, I just want this issue to be fixed quickly. I would be happy to help you!

You can study the problem from the user point of view here :

Code: Select all

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2016/04/19/ad-blockers-are-breaking-the-internet-study-finds/
When I tried replicating, I found when adb is enabled then javascript related functionality is broken. Even simple DOM insertion is not working on reported page.

Hi smed79,

Great links you've provided.
If for a time being or on a permanent basis if I want to whitelist entire britishairways.com then to whom I need to consult or what process I need to follow?

Regards,
Rajesh

That study is pure BS, majority of the websites personally decide to sabotage the content and make it look like the adblockers broke the website. Don't be so gullible. Their only aim is to discourage the use of such extensions, spread false news and alarm everyone.

Lastly the filter you found itself is an exception aka a whitelisting filter so it can't break anything, that's just contrary and contradicts to what you claim

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your comment but I am a frontend developer and I've replicated this issue on firefox when adb is installed all javascript functionality for reported page is broken, even simple show/hide is not working. Due to this website users are not able to proceed ahead.

This is really serious issue for us and we want it to get it fixed ASAP.

I would appreciate if someone will redirect us to the process where I can request to whitelist entire page which is reported by the below method:

document - Used to whitelist the page itself (e.g. @@||example.com^$document)

Source : https://adblockplus.org/filter-cheatsheet#exceptions

Remove all ads and tracking methods and then Easylist might whitelist the entire page/website, otherwise it won't be happening, though you can whitelist the entire website for yourself by adding the whitelisting filter from the cheat-sheet to your personal filters on ABP.

I think he's trying to get it whitelisted for all to fix whatever's broken.

@rajeshkumaryadav Why don't you submit an AdBlock Plus Report: https://adblockplus.org/en/getting_started#problems and submit the URL here along with the screenshot.

I think the discussion is going very long.

Concluding : I want ba.com or britishairways.com and its subdomain should not be affected by ad-blocker. Please assist.

I asked you a specific page and to provide step-by-step instructions.

Start page, what and where to type, what to click, what's the point where get broken.

I did some search for a flight, I get no weird info or broken page.
If we need an account provide a test account.

Sorry we cannot provide you such details as these are live booking and we respect to the privacy of customers.
Moreover, as part of this organization I can replicate this on my system only as this is very much secure and only accessible to BA.com developers.
This is you cannot have the direct link.

But the error in firefox console which we are getting is below:

ReferenceError: vsDoTracking is not defined

var oldVS = vsDoTracking;

Which is related to visualscience.js so I think when ad blocker is enabled then visualscience js is being in problem and this is why its dependant variables are not getting reference and page is being broken with ReferenceError

well, I don't understand. Are you talking about functionality available only to you as staff member ?
If it's about functionality any user can use on that site you should be able to provide those steps.
I didnt ask you real names, other confidential info.

What filter lists are enabled in your adblocker ?
You are talking about vsDoTracking, are you using easyprivacy list ?

If you use ABP, click ABP icon, "open blockable items", you'll see (in red) the blocked / hidden elements on the page and the related filters. Post them all here.

Below lists are enabled:
1. Fanboy's Social Blocking List
2. malware domains
3. Easyprivacy
4. Easylist

But the problem is due to Easyprivacy http://cdn.ad-blocker.org/adb/easyprivacy.txt

When you see
@@||britishairways.com/cms/global/scripts/applications/tracking/visualsciences.js

@@ ==> means is whitelisted ! is not blocked as you wrote above.

Could you ask to all my questions ?
If you use ABP, click ABP icon, "open blockable items", you'll see (in red) the blocked / hidden elements on the page and the related filters. Post them all here.

Functionality is broken world wide but we cannot replicate it on live domain as so every big project has some replica of live site so that on those files only developers have the access and they can get the changes reflect and all this happen in virtual world or you can say in Intranet

Try again submitting a report issue in ABP + firefox
https://adblockplus.org/en/getting_started#problems

keeping only easylist + easyprivacy.

Disable also all other addons.

when I arrive in this page:
https://www.britishairways.com/travel/fx/public/en_us?eId=111011

I see https://www.britishairways.com/cms/global/scripts/applications/tracking/visualsciences.js
in green (as in easyprivacy list)

So, it's something wrong in your system. Did you disable all other addons ?
Did you update your lists in ABP ?

I don't get it, how can a whitelist filter break something.

And if something is broken do this:
Submit an Adblock Plus report: https://adblockplus.org/en/getting_started#problems and use a clean installation of Firefox portable http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable with Adblock Plus.

See I am not a user who is facing this issue, I could do as per your suggestion. But I am support person and BA.com users are facing this issue who are using this addon and we cannot enforce thousands of users to replace their addon. We need to choose some other ways.

I am not using plus version [if any] I am usinng ad-blocker which is in red color logo and ADB is written in that logo.
The page which is reported is not working and may be the page you are browing doesnt have such variable dependancies. There is no issue with our system coz its working fine without ADB [ad-blocker].

Yes I updated all lists but nothing happened.

An attempt to send the report failed with error code "0x804b000d". Please ensure you are connected to the Internet and retry. If the problem persists please request assistance in the Ad-Blocker forum.

If you're not the user, ask the BA.com user to post and produce their ABP reports here, you're just going round in circles!

There's no ADB, whatever shit you're using, remove it and install ABP if you want to prove a point here.

Additional Info:

The page is not dependant on ads and there is no ad which we require to be shown or to be hidden.

The issue is that when we select bag dropdown like if you are travelling then how many bags with you will have like : 0 Bag, 1 Bag , 2 Bag

On page load ‘I accept’ checkbox will be hidden and when user will choose the bag value from dropdown then accept checkbox should be enable and then user will able to submit the form. And this is working fine.

But when your ADB is enabled then this simple functionality is being broken and user is not able to proceed ahead.
