URLs tracked by DoubleClick are blocked in Google AdWords

Post by alipatov »

Hello,

We've noticed an issue that AdBlockers prevent AdWords search results to open in a new window if the links are tracked with Doubleclick Search or DoubleClick Campaign manager. It happens due to this rule in the filter:

Code: Select all

||ad.doubleclick.net^$popup,third-party
The rule prevents pop-ups only, if you copy the URL from google.com to the browser address bar it will work fine. I should think that are no any complains to the ad.doubleclick.net click trackers itself and the only concern is the pop-up. But unfortunately it completely blocks links from google search because in most cases browser opens it in a new page.

Could you please remove this rule from the list. Whitelisting google.* won't be sufficient because DoubleClick track search on many sites e.g. Bing, Baidu or AdWords partner sites.

We can provide additional information if necessary

Is there a example/sample page where it can be reproduced?

Yes, there are a few examples

In Russia google.ru always opens landing pages in a new tab, so the problem has maximum impact there

https://www.google.ru/#newwindow=1&q=trainline

Just click the Trainline ad and you will see what will happen (actually what will not happen)

In other countries google opens landing in same tab,for example

https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=trainline

See the first ad
thetrainline.com - Trainline UK - Book Cheap UK Train Tickets‎

Open it in a new tab by selecting this option in context menu or holding the Cmd (on Mac) key while clicking on the ad

Regards
Andrey

If i click on either option, I get forward to the page "https://www.thetrainline.com/us/?ds_kid ... DAod4xUD9g" which I can open in a new tab
