I recently have not been able to play video on the Globe and Mail site. I disabled ADP by middle clicking the ABP icon but the video still would not play. I totally disabled ABP from the Addons section and restarted Firefox and the videos play no problem. If I rein able ABP the videos don't play. I am using the Easy List and Easy Element subscriptions. Here is the link to the site. There are video links all over the site try several. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/
Just for your info all my browsers have trouble playing video on the site with the AD Blockers activated. Once they are shut off the videos work fine.
Can't play video on Globe and Mail [white]
I have the Tracking Filter, EE and EL installed and tried the first 5 video links under http://www.theglobeandmail.com/video with no problem at all.
Got any specific videos this was happening on?

I can't play any of the videos. I tired your link and I couldn't play any of them either.
The strange thing is that middle clicking the ABP icon to disable ABP will disable ABP and all the blocked ads become unblocked but the videos still do not play. If I totally disable ABP form the FF addons menu than all the videos play fine. This is why I think it's an ad blocking issue and I only use the Easy List and easy Element subscriptions in ABP.
I have this problem of 5 different machines with FF3 installed. It's not a Flash problem because as i said the videos play fine when ABP is disabled in the FF Addons section. Also I don't have problems playing video on other sites.
no problem with my filters here, running
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1b2pre) Gecko/20081120 Minefield/3.1b2pre + Flash 10

This problem is odd. I had no problem until after I looked at a few videos. Then they would stop loading.
A general whitelist of that section seems to allow it to work:
... but I can't quite figure out yet what is doing that.
ps: Disabling ABP didn't help ... but sometimes clearing the cache did. Odd.
Bed time .. I'll try to look tomorrow.

Why is it that disabling ABP by middel clicking the tool bar icon will allow all the adds to come through but not the video? I have to totally disable ABP in the FF Addons section and do a restart of FF to get the videos working. Shouldn't all filters be disabled when normally disabling ABP from the tool bar icon?

I added the exception you posted and now the videos work for me. Thanks. I am interested to hear what you figure out about this.
I'm not sure at the moment, Anthony. The videos should play when the filtering is disabledAnthony A wrote:Why is it that disabling ABP by middel clicking the tool bar icon will allow all the adds to come through but not the video? I have been having some weird issues with flash videos lately ... even in IE with no ABP. There is a new major release of ABP coming out in the next 24 hours. See if it helps the problem first. When I get it, I will check this again. If the problem still exists, I will bring it up to Wladimir. This may be a tracking or cookie issue ... don't know yet.

I just tested this: With Firefox 3.0.4, the videos don't play for me, with the latest trunk (3.1b2pre) they work fine (with all subscriptions up-to-date). So maybe once again a ABP+Flash triggered Firefox problem?
Could be.Ares2 wrote: So maybe once again a ABP+Flash triggered Firefox problem?

Think i've got it.
Don't think so .... afaict, it looks like an /adj/ doubleclick fp.So maybe once again a ABP+Flash triggered Firefox problem?

Just force a subscription update in ABP preferences.Anthony A wrote:So what do I need to do to?
Although it doesn't make sense that this whitelist is needed in Fx3 but not in Minefield, I can confirm that. But wouldn't it be better to be a bit more specific?rick752 wrote:it looks like an /adj/ doubleclick fp.

I suppose I could add the word "video" to it.

I did that and the videos don't play. I had to go a manually add the exception you provided in your previous post.
Strange. Well, at least you got it to work now.
