EasyList causes buttons to be disabled on Google Groups

Post by richfeit »

Sometime recently EasyList started causing buttons in Google Groups to be disabled when they should be enabled. Here is a way to reproduce:

- Install AdBlock/Chrome with only EasyList enabled.
- Sign in with any Google account and join this group: https://groups.google.com/d/forum/richf-public/join.
- Go to https://groups.google.com/d/topic/richf ... qPNfGRzMUE (or any topic in the group) and click the "Set as duplicate" button.
- Type "test" in the search box and choose any topic from the list.

If you have Adblock+EasyList installed, the "OK" button will be disabled (incorrect). Without AdBlock installed, or with EasyList disabled, the button will be enabled (correct). I can send screenshots of both situations if that's helpful. It's happening throughout Google Groups in various cases. Can you help me figure out what's going wrong here?

Thanks,
Rich

Just a note: the OP originally reported this on the AdBlock support site.

You can see the discussion here: http://support.getadblock.com/discussio ... gle-groups

I am posting this to save you asking the same questions I did.
I usually post here on behalf of AdBlock (not ABP), when users come to us first and we have some reason to get involved with the discussion. (http://support.getadblock.com)

I don't see any filter in Easylist touching that site, Easyprivacy? sure.

When I do search for a duplicate, its grey'd out unti I finish the word. When I finish typing "Test" for example a auto-complete menu comes down and then the button shows "Ok" fine.

/Tested in Firefox.

Thanks for trying it out. I should have mentioned that this is reproducible in Chrome on Mac and Linux (I don't have access to a Windows box to check whether it's reproducible on that OS).

fanboy, do you have any insight into why EasyList would be breaking Google Groups in Chrome?

This has been going on since early April , but only on Chrome.

Not using the element hiding rules (ie. using EasyList without element hiding rules) is enough to fix the problem.
As is of course whitelisting GDF.

There's also a simpler question: are you able to whitelist groups.google.com and productforums.google.com? Neither of those sites serves ads or shows ads.

Not really the cause of the issue, from what I saw.. infact from what I saw Adblock plus didn't touch any filters on that site. (in Firefox)
