EasyPrivacy and Webshops

Post by Thels »

Hello,

My sister runs a webshop, and had an issue that a lot of firefox users were unable to complete the order and payment process, which caused a substantial loss in customers. The site uses an external third party site that handles secure payments, and when her site would normally forward the user to the payment site, for some users the page seems to load endlessly without anything actually happening.

We've been experimenting a bit with different computers and different addon settings, and it turns out that if we run Ad Block Plus with the EasyPrivacy filter enabled, the secure payment site won't load, while removing the filter (or disabling Ad Block Plus for her site) would cause the secure payment site to load properly.

(I'm not sure if it's forum policy to allow links to the webshop and payment site, so I have not included them. I'm happy to include them upon request.)

I'm not completely up to speed on everything webbased, so I have a question on how to proceed. Basically, one of the following four situations is true, and I have no idea which situation is the most likely.

1) This will always apply to webshops that use an external site for their secure payments, and impossible to fix.

2) This means there is something configured wrong on our end, and we need to change/update the webshop for things to work correctly.

3) This means there is something configured wrong on the end of the payment site, and they need to change/update their site for things to work correctly.

4) This is something that should be reported as blocking too much in Ad Block Plus.

Hopefully someone can help me figure out how to go from here.

Kind regards,
Thels.

Can you link here the questioned website, and if you're using Firefox maybe can create also an issue report, so we can check what's the culprit?

The main website in question is http://www.kringelsport.nl.

To make an order (since the site is in Dutch):
- Click a category to the left, such as "Koopjeshoek turnen".
- Click any of the 7 buttons in the middle of the page.
- Click "Klik hier" below any of the pictures.
- Click the shopping cart near the top right.
- Click "Afrekenen".
- Replace "Selecteer een verzendmethode" with one of the other options in the dropdown list.
- Enable "Ik keur de voorwaarden goed.".
- Click "Veilig bestellen".

If you arrive at the Santu secure ordering webpage, then everything worked well. When the EasyPrivacy filter is enabled, after clicking "Veilig bestellen", you see a spinning icon indicating that it's loading, but it remains stuck there.

I'll create an issue report with EasyPrivacy set up as my only filter from a fresh user account.

I've created a report: https://reports.adblockplus.org/eb7ed8b ... e8cd7fcdac

Replicated here and fixed, does affect other sites? (if so, we could remove the $domain prefix)

I had to verify with my sister, but their three other websites have the exact same issue:

http://turnpakje.nl
http://turnpakjes.nl
http://schaatspakje.nl

They use a program called Shop Factory to generate their websites, and from what I understood, that means they're automatically stuck with Globecharge, so I think all Shop Factory users suffer from this issue, but I can't tell you that for sure.

Thanks a lot for the help!

Kind regards,
Thels.

I think this may have fixed the issue I have been having with humblebundle.com since they changed the way their site works last August or so. I haven't played around with it to confirm entirely but I am able to enter a custom amount and have it take for the first time since then.

If so, thank you so much for addressing this.
