BBC iPlayer [n/a]

Post by giacecco »

The BBC iPlayer TV catch-up service at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer is made completely completely unusable by EasyList/Element because it makes heavy use of Flash components which - I guess - are mistakenly identified as advs. I think an exception should be added to the list, if this is what is needed to make iPlayer work.

There are no advertisements at all on UK BBC web sites (http://www.bbc.co.uk/*) because the BBC is funded by the British TV licensees only.

If you visit the web site from outside the UK you may be presented with different pages than the UK ones. This may prevent you to test the result of the change.

Thank you in advance,

Giacecco

I have a problem here.

I can't play those because I am from the U.S. .... it is only for U.K. users. I can't identify a problem there. When I visit the main video page there, the EasyList/EasyElement is blocking NOTHING.

Are you sure that it is the EasyList/EasyElement that is blocking something there? If so, can you identify the string that is blocking it from the "Blockable items" list?

I can't see anything dubious either. We really need some proxies.

Using a UK Proxy the videos load without problems. There are some stat elements blocked such as

Code: Select all

http://stats.bbc.co.uk/o.gif?(...)
http://uk.sitestat.com/bbc/iplayer/s?public/bbc_one(...)
but the video works fine. Tested with EasyList+EasyElement+ABPTrackingFilter.

You have found a reliable proxy in the UK? I'd be very grateful if you could share your discovery,
as I haven't so far. Hum, we have no begging face smily here. OK, just imagine one please ;-).

I used Kent University's CoDeeN proxy. You can find a list of CoDeen-Proxys here. I made good experiences with Kent as a UK proxy. Every time I used it, it was fast and worked.(Manchester for example doesn't work on the iPlayer site; you get the same error as with your own IP). So I can say that it IS reliable in opposite to many other proxys (maybe because everything is logged on CoDeen -> no illegal File Sharing, Spam bots etc.).

I don't know what the OP's problem is then. Maybe something in his own "Advertisement filters" or someone else's subscription.
