Photobucket and (some?) Gawker Media [added]

Post by shhac »

Photobucket(.com) filters:

Code: Select all

photobucket.com#td(id=advPanelContainer)
photobucket.com#div(id=containerAlbumPromo)
Not sure exactly how many ads it removes but I dont see any more ads on photobucket with those

and on some of Gawker Media's websites (e.g. lifehacker.com, kotaku.com), the current filters left empty elements which can be removed with this:

Code: Select all

#div(id=innerFloaterAdWrapper)
If these are too specific then ohwell
and thanks =]

--edit--
also this removes the ads when you sign out of meebo(.com)

Code: Select all

meebo.com#div(id=consoleAd)
--edit2--
sorry, i left out one of the element filters for photobucket

Code: Select all

photobucket.com#div(id=cellAd)
removes the empty element at top left behind by current filters.

Welcome shhac :D

Got 'em ... and more.
And god I just realized how much I hate snap .. goodbye to that thing too. It's nothing but a resource hog anyway ... like intellitext on steroids.
(photobucket runs much faster now)

Many of those "hides" I made generic strings. Test the sites and see if all is ok. Make sure that the one block didn't affect login info and member functions (I am not a member)

Thanx.

meebo - fine
lifehacker.com/kotaku.com - look like they work fine
photobucket - faster yes, but i still see one of the ads [ which was the one i suggested this filter for: photobucket.com#div(id=containerAlbumPromo) ]
--> I think you can only see this particular ad after you've logged in so that may be why you didn't add it?

If you wanted me to check more sites which might be effected then I appologise for not having the time to view every website on the net :D

--edit. wait something is having an effect on the ability to log in on photobucket.
it can be the stuff can be made visible again with this:

Code: Select all

@@photobucket#td(id=navUserMenu)
but it'd be better to find the cause =/

--edit 2 --- ignore that it just wasnt working for me for some reason :(

The logout link in photobucket disappears after logging in. I think it's the EasyElement filter that is doing this.

not my post.
to be honest i dont use logout links all to often so i didnt notice.
these links:
welcome, user | account options | go pro | help | logout
ARE on the homepage after you've logged in (i.e. http://photobucket.com) but aren't there on the album page ( http://mirror.photobucket.com/albums/number/user/ yes i did modify that url so it doesnt have my info =])
this is because it appears they're in the #div(class=headerAd) on that page (why would photobucket do that if not to deter adblocking?)

if this problem effects you, and you "care"; you could either whitelist it just for photobucket(?) or suggest rick modifies the filter which is false posotive-ing it, and makes it more specific. (which i dont feel like looking for right now - i just had an exam)

@shhac:
You cannot whitelist an element.

@guest:
Because this is the first instance using that element that has a false-positive, I suggest simply disabling the element string:

Code: Select all

#*(headerAd)
... that should take care of your problems until I see if there is also another problem with it besides that. It shouldn't affect your blocking much ... if at all.

Speaking of photobucket, Rick you have some ads from there hidding behind Easyelement.
In the front page this filter #*(id*=sponsored) hides ads which are still downloaded.

ad link example 1
ad link example 2
ad link example 3
so maybe something like this will block them:

Code: Select all

photobucket.com/*homepage_promo_

Another place where downloaded ads are hidden behind Easyelement is in the albums, for example here: http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n277 ... slideshows

EDIT:
Maybe something like this:

Code: Select all

photobucket.com/*ad_album_click_
will take care of the album section.

EDIT2: That one above is not sufficient by itself. I figured out 2 codes but both of them have exceptions that makes it through.

I currently have 2 codes for the album section.

Code: Select all

photobucket.com/*ad_album_click_

Code: Select all

No time now, but I think that:

Code: Select all

s114.photobucket.$script
... might take care of these. I will adjust this site later on.

the "s114" is only for that user (and perhaps a load more) but not all users. its just the mirror or something, you'd have to use wildcards instead.

While I completely agree with your hate, I'd consider filtering this in an ad filter list a false positive.
I actually did filter this for a while and got complaints, there are people out there who like snap.

I moved the snap filter out of the subscription to my private filter list.

OK guys:

I made some changes and additions. Take a look in there now and tell me what works and what is broken.
