Sorry. I could .. but I'm not going to waste my time there. Most torrent sites like that simply just aren't worth the effort. I can't tell what's supposed to be part of that site and what's not part of it. That site simply sucks.

You're on your own there... :!:

Took care of that (plus a little more if you're using both filters)

Hello, Rick!

I have the following string:
*.adlegend.com*
which I added long before I discovered EasyList.

Yesterday it showed 40 hits, today it shows 77, so it is doing *something*... (Oops! The huge jump was the result of visiting http://www.adlegend.com to verify that it is an ad server. It is.)

I no longer remember where I originally saw it... Sorry!

After perusing your EasyList, I don't see anything that would obviously block it. What do you think?

BTW, why are some of the line items in the EasyList typed in green text, instead of black?
Hint: I do not *routinely* check the mail box of this disposable address!

green items are whitelisting filters. Or sites/filters that allow content to display. Used to fix false positives.

I've been checking out adlegend and it is a weird thing to block. It seems to show up more in pieces of long scripting that are already blocked ... and if it DOES block something that was not blocked before, nothing on any of my test pages changed at all.

It could be some kind of controller, a counter, or a marketing analysis device. All I know is that it doesn't seem to affect anything as an ad filter that I've seen so far.

ps:

To add to what Dogg said, most of the (green) whitelistings were made to deal with different video structures that are served though ad companies. Check the blockable items for a video on Foxnews for example. If you disable the whitelistings shown, the video will not play. Whitelistings always start with "@@".

Yea, sorry Rick I could have worded that a bit better. What I was meaning was they are used to fix unavoidable false positives. :D

I would say that the ones in my list are a bit unavoidable for the time being.

OK. green = whitelist. good!

I reset the hit counter for adlegend. I'll try to figure out where the hits are coming from...

Correct. That's why my wording in my first post in this thread didn't sound right.

hey rick i thing you should be more specific with your bwp filter because some ads pass through that filter like here

Code: Select all

http://help.cnet.com/Apple_iPod_Nano_series/9602-12576_39-0.html?
messageID=2505168&tag=tip-2505168&ssaProductSeriesId=31554114&kw=Apple+iPod+Nano+series
you can block those ads with http://bwp.cnet.com/

Actually salvy, I made the original filter for Cnet's sister site ZDNet.

Now I've condensed them both into another filter that I think will be fine.

Tried something a bit general ... you'll see it. (I'll keep my eye on it though)

I'm seeing a "You, Me, And Dupree" flash ad at the top of the imdb.com homepage, and a flash ad for Fantasy Moguls at http://www.imdb.com/chart/.

Thanks.

Blocking Megaupload ads: *megaupload.com/*/gui/
In my experience, the first star (*megaupload) isn't necessary, I added it just in case.

The filter */banner/* works pretty well for me, you might want to add it and see if it interferes with your daily browsing. I haven't noticed false positives with it.

:!: This is just their own information directory ... the banners are just their own and most are not even ads. I'm not blocking those but you can (or others that read this post).

:!: */banner/* is bad ... many false-positives. You can do it, but, alas, I cannot

You would be better off bringing this to the attention of Cedric or Dr. Evil as they make the subscriptions for blocking first-party ads on German sites.

I only do first-party English-language sites. I will add some third party ad servers in other languages though ... but this site does not apply.

Code: Select all

dict.leo.org##td.cT[width="15%"]:last-child
