Suggest elements to hide list [locked]

Post by rick752 »

Element Suggestions
Just add to the list. The page url should be included.

If you know that code, enter it along with the link. I will review it as element-hide false-postives are much more dangerous and harder to track down than regular ad blocks. If you see an  after it, it means I have added it to the next filter update (a day or two?) ...   means I already uploaded it.

(Please do NOT suggest an element-hide UNLESS you are using both my EasyList and EasyElement filters together)

Thanks for your welcome.

Here's one for the search engine Clusty.com:

Code: Select all

clusty.com#div(id=top-boost)

It remove Top Shopping Results and Top News.

ifilm.com#div(class=ad-leaderboard) supersedes ifilm.com#div(id=leaderboard)

Also, there is a black bar below the menu and above the search bar that should be removed: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/happy_feet/  (can't do much about the gap)
What, me worry?

To get rid of the crappy IE7 ad that shows up in non-IE7 browsers at the bottom of the search page here:
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=firefo ... s&ei=UTF-8

I used this filter:

Code: Select all

yahoo.com#p(class=yschftad)
However, one could make it more broad and delete a couple matching filters by doing this:

Code: Select all

yahoo.com#*(class*=ad)
I didn't see any false-positives, but there might be some in the future.

Thanks!

:!: I don't see that anymore there.

Could you have a look at what could be blocked here:
http://www.ebroadcast.com.au/tv/static/ ... Night.html

I'm not sure how much success you will have.

All the best Mate

   works fine now

in case you didn't see it above, I don't see that IE ad anymore.

Funny you should mention yahoo.com#*(class*=ad).
This block is incredibly bad! Any open-ended version of *ad* (especially leaving the beginning open) sets you up for all kinds of false-positives.

I just had to remove "yahoo.com#*(id*=adcolumn)" because it was blocking "headcolumn" on China's Yahoo.

I normally do not do elements for non-English sites (mostly because I don't read Spanish), but I added the google strings because I already have those elements listed for the US, Australia, Canada, and UK domains ... so adding those 2 domains to it was not a big deal.

But I have to stop at the Spanish dictionary. If I start making element-hides for ALL languages, I will soon have 10,000 entries.

Someone needs to volunteer to compile at least a supplemental ABP list (to mine?) for Spanish-language sites. I can't believe that there are no Spanish-speaking users (especially in the US) that have not jumped into this project yet. This is the one BIG language that is missing from the filter community

I just registered to let you know that I'd gladly help you out with the list of sites in Spanish. There should be an announcement about it for most of the pages I visit are not in Spanish.
Spanish versions of e-mail services and online portals could be a start.

Thanx aeriz ..... just finding some major things that I've missed would be a great help. I don't imagine that there are that many spanish ad companies or major sites that the EasyList doesn't get. But I would really like to find out what is being missed .... is it something so small that I could just add it to the EasyList. Or is it more than I thought? :)

I have sent you a private message. Thanx and welcome!

For the iNET Interactive bar at the top of http://www.webhostingtalk.com/:

Code: Select all

webhostingtalk.com##body > script:first-child + table
(The EasyList already blocks the images in it, but the three drop-down boxes on the right side of it are still tehre.)

:?: That element is already collapsed here, Peng. Adding that filter did nothing at all here. Do you have "collapse blocked elements" on?
