nintendoeverything.com

Post by vodi »

I'm new here, so I hope I'm in the right place:

One website I frequent is nintendoeverything.com. It uses a rather aggressive advertising method that turns out to be called PageFair, which literally aims to avoid adblockers (as shown on their website, pagefair.com). They indeed manage to shows ads even though I have Adblock installed.

Anyway, after a bit of looking through the HTML source code, I found that a script gets loaded from asset.pagefair.net. I don't know too much about Adblock filters, but a simple custom filter rule I added to my Adblock (literally: asset.pagefair.net/*) finally got me rid of these ads, there and hopefully also on other websites that use this extremely annoying kind of forced advertising.

So I'd like to suggest that this filter rule be added to EasyList:

Code: Select all

||asset.pagefair.net/*
I know it blocks everything on that domain, but the EasyList policy literally states: Domains specifically serving adverts should be blocked on all third-party websites.

Thank you in advance.

pagefair.com is not used as an adserver but a tracker which is blocked in easyprivacy.
Post screenshot with what ads you see and provide a specific example page.
Provide also info about what adblocker and browser you use.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. The ads show up right on the homepage, so you should see them almost immediately (they get loaded after a few seconds). Here's a screenshot:

As I mentioned before, blocking

Code: Select all

asset.pagefair.net
removes the ads, as I could tell from the source code of the web page:

In other words, I'm not sure about pagefair.com, but asset.pagefair.net is definitely used as an ad server. Please add a rule like this to your list.
Any rule you see fit, as long as it works.

By the way, I use Chrome 62 and the Adblock extension.

http://asset.pagefair.net/ads.min.js is already blocked by the easylist filter: .net/ads.

There is also this filter: ||pagefair.net^$third-party in easylist

Wait, really? Anyway, I just had Adblock update EasyList and removed my own custom filter. It works, so I guess you're right. Must've been added very recently....

So, sorry about that and thanks anyway.
