imdb.com

Post by aigoo » Mon Aug 07, 2017 7:54 am

Sample page:

Code: Select all

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0808376
Top banner ads are blocked without issue, but side bar ads persisting:

Code: Select all

http://i.imgur.com/N8NmZMO.jpg
Using uBlock Origin with Easylist, have tried purging/updating the past two days.

Any tips appreciated, thanks!

Test

Code: Select all

/airy.ads.
-HouseAds-
-ecx.$domain=imdb.com
or

Code: Select all

||images-amazon.com/images/*/shazam/$domain=imdb.com
(https://github.com/easylist/easylist/co ... b29c3464aa)

Thanks, the second option,

Code: Select all

||images-amazon.com/images/*/shazam/$domain=imdb.com
Did the trick, there's just black bars now

Looks like IMDB has revised some things, noticed some sidebar ads returning.

Here's an example:

Code: Select all

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4899370/
Screenshot:

Any tips appreciated, thank you!

On the left and right sidebars, those US flag-like images, also the soldier uniform on the right.

Thanks

Hmm, I'm afraid I don't use Adblock+, but uBlock Origin as noted in the top post. Easylist, Easyprivacy, and uBlock filters.

I'm not familiar with Adblock+ -- reading their page, it sounds like they will just 'look into it' and potentially update their own internal filters?

Is there some simple CSS filter code I can just add to my uBlock?

I get no such elements on that page. So, if we cannot reproduce the issue we can't help you.
Even disabling completely uBo, I get no such elements on the sides.
Disable all other extensions, see if helps.

+1 with @intense and uBO. I don't get any elements like what I saw in your first post.

Thanks for the quick responses, @intense/@Lanik, apologies if anything is not clear.

I went ahead and disabled UO and tried in Chrome Incognito without extensions, and we can see when UO is engaged, it is blocking most of the banner ads and top video, just not the large background/sidebars. Here are some examples of what I'm experiencing, including a "typical" adblocked page:

Code: Select all

http://i.imgur.com/V7jXl8i.jpg
For reference, that "Megan Leavey" page is at

Code: Select all

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4899370/
And the typical "The Book of Henry" page is at

Code: Select all

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4572792/

I see the Megal Leavy background but that just looks like self promo not an ad to me.

Thanks, is there a way to filter those out, so it resembles a typical page without such graphics?

Using @smed79's helpful filters, it blocks those on 99% of the pages I've seen, just a few, like Meagan Leavey that are not

Code: Select all

||images-amazon.com/images/*/shazam/$domain=imdb.com
-or-
/airy.ads.
-HouseAds-
-ecx.$domain=imdb.com

I too am experiencing this, along with aigoo. Top panel is blocked, but the side panels have wallpaper-like ads for the side where I used to see blank light grey. Something in the EasyList filter has changed since the last update.

Those filters smed79 supplied aren't working.

Using the latest version of uBlock Origin.

With uBlock Origin, you can use the following filter to remove the background:

Code: Select all

imdb.com#$##wrapper { background: none!important; }

Thanks.

In uBlock Origin:

Would it be better to add it to the "My Filters" tab?

Or go into the 3rd party filters tab and add it directly to the EasyList subscription notepad?

Again, thanks

Add it as custom filter (my filters tab)

It worked. Thanks!

And thanks to Bob the Builder.

:-)

PS: I hope this line of code supplied by Bob the Builder will be added to upcoming versions of the EasyList in the future. Those wallpaper ads on the imdb not only slow the webpage down from loading, but they look unsightly and distracting as well.

Thanks to all.

Well it looks like the imdb changed it's headers again. Now I'm coming up with the following crap at the top

https://imgur.com/a/pjONI

The gray area that says:

A Better
Reality -- March 2018 -- Visit Site (button)
Awaits

I like the gray on the sides. I want that.

It used to take the top black bar and fuse it with the bottom one. Now there's this (ad) wrapper gap.

I did address a similar issue here viewtopic.php?f=62&t=37749&p=127971#p127971 but that doesn't work anymore.

Any fix for this?

Thanks
