Adds still pop up on right side and top right under navigation panel. Trying to block them with addblock feature doesn't seem to work.

This site is plagued with tons of often-refreshing ads. And lately they have been passing through my filters.

For example:

Code: Select all

http://www.wowhead.com/item=21619/gloves-of-the-messiah#comments
wowhead.com###MB-iframe-horizontal
wowhead.com##.mbIFrame
wowhead.com##iframe[src="about:blank"]
&

Code: Select all

<DIV
id="sidebar"
class="sidebar fixed-sidebar" >

into
<DIV
id="mb_adslot_234517737" >
DIV[class="vertical-bg is-atf is-300x550"]
Not sure if i provided anything useful, as it is the first time i take the time to report an add.

Thanks & keep up the good work.

You can just install uBlock Origin Extra, it's block this shitty ad's trash. Here is issue about this ad's platform:

There is a large banner advertising a SSD at the top of the site:

Code: Select all

http://www.wowhead.com
http://i.imgur.com/nHkmKxf.png

This filter hides it

Code: Select all

wowhead.com##.announcement

This filter does't hide it.

This:

Code: Select all

##.text.announcement-inner
Does.

Not all the adblockers are supporting script injecting (like uBo or adguard), so the only way is whitelisting various elements (those tested by the site)

Works great! The blanks spaces left behind can be taken care of with

Code: Select all

wowhead.com###ad-vertical
wowhead.com##.banner-ad
wowhead.com##.block-pair

When visiting this site, after blocking ads on the page, I used to get a message saying that they detected that I was blocking the ad and should consider whitelisting the site. Recently however, I no longer get this message, instead I get an ad - multiple ads per page. Some of the ads are static, but some are graphics, including movie trailers that are not being blocked. As a result, it slows down my machine and makes the usefulness of the site negligible. I think they are using HTML 5 now and that's why the ads are not being blocked. I can't tell because even opening up the source view of the site (using the developer tools in either Safari or Chrome) doesn't work - it takes forever to load.

This is a recent change on their site that took place between June 28 and June 29. There is even a new text block that pops up warning that they use cookies to provide relevant ads but even clicking the "I accept" box in that warning does nothing.

I've complained to the site itself because I can't use the site any more. It takes a real long time to stop loading - your extension in Chrome reports more than 100 ads being blocked on each page of this site but still ads are getting through.

This is ridiculous. I can understand a site wanting to have ads appear so they make some money to maintain the site but it should not be at the expense of usefulness of the site and we should have the ability to block the ads if we want.

I tried to add the filter. I get an error:
The following filter:

Code: Select all

@@||wowhead.com^$generichide
has an error:

Code: Select all

Unknown option 'generichide' in filter '@@||wowhead.com^$generichide'
I took out that line. I don't know anything about the filters (I'm a relatively new user) so I don't know what it does. In any event, the resulting code doesn't block the ads on the page.

I also added the code suggested by adref but that didn't help any.

You are using some unknown adblocker which does not support generichide. Provide details (browser, adblocker, filter lists).

Sorry guys:

I installed Adblock Plus
To be on the safe side, and to avoid any possible problems, I uninstalled Adblock which is what I'd been using previously.
I created the filter in Safari using "Edit raw filter as text" and cut-and-pasting every line from both smed79 and adref's posts.
I loaded one of the wowhead pages

The ads still were not blocked.

Tried the same thing in Chrome. Ads not blocked there either.

I'm stumped. Not to mention frustrated.
