Code: Select all

##DIV#adBlockBanner
Adblock message.
I am suggesting this as a general rule and not domain specific as it applies to many, if not all Newsquest websites and it states that it has 200+ local newspapers in the UK ... http://www.newsquest.co.uk/our-titles/

That would be a most excellent solution that many others will benefit from. Thank you

Can I please suggest moving this under a wider spanning title as the rule applies to hundreds of websites. Somebody put my topic and a smaller subgroup of websites.

And also, the DIV name has been changed so the filter should now be

Code: Select all

##DIV#__nq__hh

So what can we do to get rid of the banner? None of the suggestions work, it seems they have made effort to work around ad blocking. I believe they aren't following the rules. The blue banner is very intrusive, taking up over half the screen on my phone, it's clear they haven't followed the guidelines.

Hi! Still seeing that big blue "LOVE YOUR LOCAL NEWS? Please turn off your ad blocker" notice at the bottom of Worcesternews.co.uk, a Newsquest site, with the filter @smed79 suggested and after updating EasyList.

@rhanajoy only for chrome !important kills the hiding filters

1. install "Tampermonley" extension https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... ldmpobfkfo

2. Install "It's Not Important" userscript https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/14720 ... -important

@fanboy Could you chage the filter to ###__nq__hh[style="display:block!important"] to make it work with µBo (/issues/1668).

@smed79 I have an update from a user who was had success with Tampermonkey + INI, but with some tweaked custom filters required:
I've installed Tampermonkey, fed it the It's Not Important userscript and loaded the following custom filters into Adblock, which now work together to block the banner perfectly:

Code: Select all

###__nq__hh[style="display:block!important"]
##DIV[id="__nq__hh"]
It seems using just one of those filters above doesn't work, making sure to copy BOTH of these lines into Adblock filter lists works perfectly and these (combined with Tampermonkey and INI script) will zap those banners for good. The banner does appear for about 1 second on page load then vanishes completely (probably whilst Adblock and INI do their job) but I'm fine with that. Is there a way to incorporate something like the INI script into Adblock itself?

Feel free to feed this back to the Easylist forums, I'm pretty sure Fanboy and the team would be interested to know. I suspect this will do the job for all 200+ Newsquest sites. Lets hope they don't find out.
Thought you'd like to know. :)

Hi,

A few months ago I reported an issue with Worcester News/Newsquest displaying a huge Anti AdBlock banner to AdBlock Support. Rhana posted here on my behalf for a solution. I was able to find a fix thanks to the great help you and Rhana offered via this thread and the AdBlock ticket system.

Relevant links and articles (I'm using Code tags to break URL's):
This thread
AdBlock support knowledgebase article (from the previous report on the issue):

Code: Select all

https://help.getadblock.com/support/solutions/articles/6000165290-custom-filters-to-block-anti-adblock-banner-on-worcesternews-co-uk

Both of which fixed it for me when used together.

Recently I noticed that Newsquest are trying to defeat the solution, and have changed their Anti-AdBlock code to defeat that solution.

They now use a different DIV Tag which can be defeated with these filters (in additon to the other filters and steps:

Code: Select all

##DIV[id="bbpvos"]###bbpvos[style="display:block!important"]
For easy reference, the full script they use is:

https://bpaste.net/show/3c6a0e04d4d3

Could EasyList be updated please (and the relevant filters posted here so I can update)?

Thanks

would it be possible to block this element

Code: Select all

oxfordmail.co.uk###__nq__hh
or even the

Code: Select all

###__nq__hh
string for all "newsquest" websites (local newspaper sites in the uk)

what it shows its a massive red banner that says "love your local news turn off your adblocker" if you turn off the ad blocker the amount of adverts on the page is unreal and well their journalism is not worthy of that IMHO
