Seems to work fine, just launches a few popups still. Click the play button a few times (due to the overlays)

Note; best not to post links in these forums. wrap them in

Code: Select all

Powvideo.net is an advertisement minefield. I've been amateurishly trying to make filters for them for some days, and I found this:

I don't think their pop-ups (or the ones they remain after I blocked all that) are, technically, pop-ups; I can't block them with uBlock origin popup control, or with filters. I think they're links that spawn a new tab, embedded in a flash object, so uBlock Origin (and probably adBlock plus) can't reach them.

This blocks some of their pop-ups, and most of their scripts, without preventing me from watching the video:

Code: Select all

||powvideo.net/js/jquery.pursue.js
||powvideo.net/player6/jwpsrv.js
||powvideo.xyz^$script
||powvideo.net/js/pu.js
||cloudflare.com^$domain=powvideo.xyz|powvideo.net
||powvideo.xyz/bon/*
(a combination of inline-script and scripts in powvideo.net, all of them obfuscated, spawn two pop-ups when I click the preview image to load the video)

These popups open a new tab with one of these pages:

Code: Select all

||bontent.powvideo.xyz^$document,subdocument,popup
||bontent.powvideo.net^$document,subdocument,popup
||dacash.powvideo.net^$document,subdocument,popup
! Just in case they switch servers again. I don't think /apu.hh? has a legitimate use, does it?
/apu.hh?$document,subdocument,popup
and that one may redirect to some of these other pages (I don't remember if all of them came from powervideo.net, but most of them)

Code: Select all

||3wr110.xyz^$document,subdocument,popup
||3wr111.xyz^$document,subdocument,popup
||3wr112.xyz^$document,subdocument,popup
||adyieldoptimizer.com^$document,subdocument,popup
||clicksgear.com^$document,subdocument,popup
||clik5.com^$document,subdocument,popup
||duckcash.eu^$document,subdocument,popup
||hoortols.org^$document,subdocument,popup
||onclickads.net^$document,subdocument,popup
||onclickpredictiv.com^$document,subdocument,popup
||parserwords.info^$document,subdocument,popup
||popads.net^$document,subdocument,popup
||free.promotrkon.com^$document,subdocument,popup
||shakeit.click^$document,subdocument,popup
||dontent.streamplay.to^$document,subdocument,popup
||zeroredirect.com^$document,subdocument,popup
which then redirect to another random page.

Okay, I tried your filters in uBlock Origin. I also made sure no other filters interfered with this test.

http://powvideo.xyz/3qwpkr44ozn4 works, and neither of your links shows an ad, but in an embedding, the movie never loads no matter how much I click the image: http://powvideo.xyz/embed-3qwpkr44ozn4-640x360.html (with no blocking, it switches that static image for a Flash object).

Remove other custom filters, add these:

Code: Select all

||bontent.powvideo.net^
||powvideo.net^$popup,~third-party
||powvideo.*/js/jquery.pu*.js
@@||powvideo.net^$generichide
@@||code.jquery.com/ui/*/jquery-ui.min.js$script,domain=powvideo.net

This is odd...

I tested your new filters. http://powvideo.xyz/embed-3qwpkr44ozn4-640x360.html works now, but it still spawns two popups the first time I click. I can move the mouse to make the controls appear, and click the seeking bar and the pause button without problem, but the first time I click in the movie itself, two popups more will appear.

The popups content is correctly blocked. http://3wr111.xyz/... isn't blocked immediately, but it redirects to a page that's filtered by the Easylist without element hiding rules. The same happens if I use the regular Easylist instead.

This is the exact effect I had with my filters. I'm using uBlock Origin from Firefox in Spain, if that makes any difference.

http://powvideo.xyz/3qwpkr44ozn4 still works without an issue.

For me the popups are managed by adblock plus

Code: Select all

https://vid.me/e/aE1M
Image

try to replace ||powvideo.net^$popup,~third-party by :

Code: Select all

||bontent.powvideo.net^$popup
or

Code: Select all

|http://$popup,domain=powvideo.xyz
|https://$popup,domain=powvideo.xyz
Image

Okay, now they still open, but they close automatically. I guess this is an error (or an implementation difference) in uBlock, rather than the filters themselves; UBO's supposed to be able to prevent popups altogether, but I can't make that work.

So thank you for your help ^_^ your filters work right, thank you very much! I'm only curious about one thing: does that happen in ABP, too, or they never open? Can you block popups when their URL still reads about:blank?

EDIT: The popups open and close automatically, doesn't matter if I use

||powvideo.net^$popup,~third-party
or
||bontent.powvideo.net^$popup
or

Code: Select all

|http://$popup,domain=powvideo.xyz
|https://$popup,domain=powvideo.xyz

I updated my filters, but as far as I can tell, your update didn't have any visible effect on powvideo embeds. Probably in other pages, but not in powvideo embeds.

Tried it now, and it still has the same effect. To clarify: the popup's content is blocked correctly and immediately for the four of them, it writes on screen "uBlock Origin prevented this page from loading". There isn't really anything else to block.

It seems to be an uBlock bug ― it really tries to open a popup which is going to be blocked/force-closed anyways. I'll probably report it when I find time.
