whitelist control

Post by Mr K »

You have whitelisted some websites I don't want to have whitelisted. The only way it seems that I can remove them from the whitelist is to unsubscribe from your filters. I don't want to do that. Is there another way that I can gain control of what goes on my whitelists?

Sure can!
... just turn off that particular filter string by clicking it off in the "Enabled" column in the subscription list and clicking 'apply' ... turn ALL the whitelists off if you wish. Even when you update the subscription, selected strings should always keep their status.

*** You can only do this in Adblock Plus though .. hope that is what you are using.

Oh, that was easy. No option came up to disable when right clicking. Never would've thought to click the green dot. Thanks!

I know you mentioned in another thread that you whitelisted some sites since they were causing issues...

But why whitelist media.fastclick.net*get.media? ..? It took me a minute to figure out why my custom rule of *fastclick.net/* wasn't getting rid of an annoying flashing image till I searched through my subscription. The only thing I ever see from fastclick.net is ads so I am puzzled as to why the exception.

I've just removed that a little while ago. It was actually something I was testing that accidentally got in the easylist when I added some new filters the other day. Download the easylist again.

Could you either post the page or the code for that false-positive? ... I need to do a comparison against a string that I need for video served by fastclick.

Obviously, that one was too general. Thanx.

*EDIT ... Never mind ... I found some.

Guess you were on top of it already. Here is where I had the issue even though you already found an example.

Code: Select all

<a href="http://media.fastclick.net/w/click.here?sid=6042&m=3&c=1" target="_blank"><img src="http://media.fastclick.net/w/get.media?sid=6042&m=3&tp=3&d=s&c=1&f=b&v=1.4" width=120 height=600 border=1></a>
I am guessing the doubleclick.net fixes a specific problem too? I would assume so. Honestly after seeing that one ad whitelisted I was curious if advertisers could pay to be whitelisted. Glad to see I was wrong :)

About half of the whitelistings in the easylist are 'targeted' whitelists for embeded video only. They work fine with no false-positive-negatives (huh?) so far. The ads are blocked and the video plays fine.

A lot a MAJOR news sites serve video thru major ad companies (doubleclick, fastclick, etc.) with tricky code that they use to try to force users to whitelist the whole site. I have actually targeted only those parts that block the video from playing.

Try video at Foxnews and MSNBC (just to name a couple) and try to watch a video without the whitelists.

The recent whitelist was just an error on my part.

Hey, no problem man. Thanks for doing us all a favor and working on the list in the first place. And thanks for the quick responses too. :D
