Adblock Memes

With all the serious discussion about adblock I thought I'll share some Adblock memes.

Re: AdBlock Protector 2 List for uBlock Origin

I have been using uBlock Protector along with this list (same dev) and it works fine but the main work seems to be done by uBlock Protector in hard to block anti adblock notices. The list itself works fine but there are many old filters which sometimes unnecessarily allow ad requests. I like using u...

I found another answer on how these animated emoticon are inserted in Subject lines. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/28095387/animated-icon-in-email-subject Even in the above thread the Subject line contains some sort of indication that there are animated emoticons there, i.e., UTF-8 in raw emai...

Animated emoticons in Gmail Subject Lines

I have been receiving a lot of spam lately and most Subject lines in these spam emails contain animated emoticons or "goomoji" which were introduced in Gmail before the standard Unicode emojis. Here is an article that tries to explain how these animated emoticons are added in Subject lines for Gmail...

@gorhill @Lanik I see that an option has been added to uBO for enabling/disabling blocking of CSP reports in the latest public release of 1.14.18. The fact that its also disabled by default puts a complete end to the security debate. Cool.

No extension can cause harm right after installation
You know the extensions that hijack your new tab and homepage plus additional settings. They do the harm right after installation and these do make it to the Webstore as I have myself seen.

Facebook earned a total of $700 million in the past four quarters by forcing ads on adblock users. Even though desktop usage and revenue fell for Facebook ad revenue from desktop adblock users increased each quarter. It is clear seeing this Facebook is going to continue the cat and mouse game. Yes, this was a long time ago though :)

Can't know what extension is going to harm you even if you go by the rating on Chrome Webstore I recently discovered that most ratings and reviews are faked. Should only go with what you yourself trust.

Yeas, most browser hijackers work by redirecting through multiple domain hoops. This does seem a good development https://www.androidcentral.com/chrome-updates-set-kill-annoying-auto-redirects-and-trick-click-pop-ups.

Though I wonder if it might affect legitimate redirects.

uBlock Blocking CSP Raises Questions

uBlock Origin currently blocks all CSP from being sent by a website if any tracking script is blocked such as Google Analytics which is used by a lot of websites. CSP allows website admins to determine what content gets loaded on webpagea (JS, CSS, iframes etc.) thus preventing XSS like attacks and ...

They are just planning to create a monoply here by setting arbitrary rules they seemingly plan to block out the competition. A browser's role should be limited in that it serves content and protects the end user but this is completely unjust. The user should decide what they block. And from what I k...
